Do you think there has EVER Been an era in America as wonderful and idealistic as we paint it with our 'good old days' scenarios?
Hasnt there ALWAYS been a give and take where some people lived in a very glorious America while others lived through hell in America? Does anyone expect we will GET to a time when everyone is actually living in the IDeal America so many claim we once had? I hope we get to it. THEre have always been things which could be better and things which could be worse. ID like to learn from the past and move forward , I am praying we never go 'BACK'. When I hear of 'strict constitutionalism', I think of the atrocities going on during those times and I cringe,,,,, |

I think after the Korean war and before the Vietnam war could be the "good old days." Although we did hit a period of prosperity after Nam, we also had civil unrest in that time.
So no, there was never "good old days" for all Americans at the same time. |

I just got a book about this, comparing the way Americans used to live with the way we live now. I'm only on page 18, but the author summarized his findings: we really haven't changed that much except that we have MORE of most things. More things to eat, longer lifespans, better health for more people, more people going to church, even. Idealizing the past is normal even for people like historians who should know better. We currently have less violence and move around less than, say, two hundred years ago. He does say that the fact we are more "secure" does not necessarily mean that we FEEL more secure. That's a later chapter which I can't wait to get to.

I would say before "America" was born.........before the White man came.....

I think that this country should go back to pre 1840 before the industrial revolution.

I don't want to "go back"! I want to build a BETTER tomorrow! The problem with that is, the road we're on under this system, there won't be a tomorrow to build on soon, or the money or freedom to do it with!

Back to what is right!
Back to when Ricky and Lucy slept in separate beds..no thanks. And we can't move forward the way things are... it's just not working. We had a good run, now it's collapsing. We'll have to start all over, without money. Changes EVERYTHING! |
