If dreams were true, These thoughts wouldn't gnaw at my heart, This early at dawn, Sitting wistful, Chewing my pen, My only pill for pain. If dreams were true, I would be smiling now like the cotton field, Or soundly sleeping, Like the infant in the cot, And you by my side, Tired and bashful, Clad in bridal blood. But dreams are not true, And this somnolent wedlock, In the arms of the night That divorces at dawn, Leaves me wistful, Chewing my pen, My only pill for pain. Written by dan3ple
