kntry, I'd never heard of him, so I found him on YouTube and checked him out. Wow! Talk about a flash-back. Haven't been exposed to that kind of "get rough wit it preachin'" since I used to go to Birmingham for Thanksgiving with my x over 13 years ago.
I'm glad you brought this up. It just goes to show you sermons don't have to be boring. I tend to pay better attention when they're not. My question to you is this? Why do you think he has the style he has? The reason I'm asking is I've heard one opinion on how someone becomes filled with the Holy Spirit. Would you say, in your opinion obviously, JD is filled with or possibly contains the Holy Spirit when he preaches? |

wench thanks for responding since you are the only one who did. and yes i would say he definatley is filled with the holy spirit and he is the only one that gets my attention and keeps it you cant help but feel it when listenin and watchin him and the audience gets into it to ppl dont seem to be falling asleep, he is real and lets it show. i just stumbled upon him while channel surfin one mornin after gettin off work and now i watch it every mornin. i wish more ppl would ck him out.. he talks to where you can understand what he means and puts it in everyday life.

You might not like to hear it, but people with a certain charisma are always able to preach like this. It is not as much WHAT they say, but the way they bring it over to you. So I would say he doesn't necessarily have the spirit, just the charisma.

You've voiced a very valid point invisible. Plus, usually, what I most do NOT want to hear - is what I truly need to pay attention to and make sure I include in my thought process.

T.D. Jakes comes out of the "Oneness Pentacostal" movement, and his particular beliefs would be considered just to the left of Orthodox historical Christianity. The basic difference is that he believes there is "One God with a triune manifistation" - or "Modalism" as it is called - as opposed to the traditional concept of the trinity. In other words - he does not believe in - God the father, God the son, and God the Holy Spirit, but rather preaches that it is God who is sometimes the father, sometimes the son, and sometimes the Holy Spirit.
I'm not sure about this - but I believe he is also a-lined with the ministers of the "Health and Wealth" movement within the megachurches. |

i disagree about the wealth ministries comment but everyone is entitled to their opinion

I've only heard that he is - and I've often seen him listed as part of the pastors in confrences who are well known "Health and Wealth" preachers (as they are called) The Joel Olsteen's and such of the megachurches. Don't know this as fact.

TD Jakes has a great ministry that helps battered women escape that life situtaion. If that is all he ever does as a minister, he's doing something good. Not much of a church goer, but I've seen the benefits of his program. It's important.

Purebliss;
Just caught up with the post - wasn't sure if you were looking for a response from me. I actually have nothing against TD Jakes - or Joel Olsteen. It's just the particular type of Christianity that they represent. It was not meant to be derogatory. I know that "health and wealth" seems to sound that way - but it's only a moniker as it were. Like "fire and brimstone" would be for the preachers who always sermonze about hell and damnation. TD - Olsteen - Hagee... their sermons tend to focus on the more positive aspects of the bible. Though they do not go to the extremes of the "faith healers" like Benny Hinn and the likes. Sorry if it seemed I was putting him down. He (TD Jakes) does come out of te oneness Pentacostal movement though - if that means anything to you. |

Thank you, Eljay. As I respect a person's right to express their opinions, I was not looking for a response...but do appreciate your insights! However, the point I wanted to make was that while you may not agree with someone's religion or philosophy, you can not discount the good they are doing.
