Sipping on Something Sweet
“Hey baby, whatcha doin’?” “I’m about to leave the office . . . and you?” “Oh I’m home already; sipping on something sweet and waiting on you” We hang up; I turn off the lights lock the door and head for the garage I pull out onto I Street NW DC traffic is a bit much and my baby is waiting on me I smile because this is one of those times where road rage could be justified But it’s time to chill I open the sun roof add a little smooth jazz to the moment and let out an ah, yeah, I’m on my way to my beautiful lady A few friends call to see what they can bring she invited them too said it was an “impromptu party” cool Weave in and out of the city until I hit the ‘burbs and the phone rings “Hello” “Hey baby do you mind if a few friends stop over?” “Definitely not; should I pick up anything?” “Another bottle of wine; we have enough of everything else” I stop at the Wine Cellar now let’s see, hmm Sauvignon Blanc? Or a cabernet . . . perhaps a merlot? I call her back, “What do you prefer?” “You” I’m smiling like an infatuated sixteen year old “Seriously baby” “I am serious . . . but Moscato is cool” Moscato it is I pick up two bottles and a dozen roses from the florist next door I arrive home and the aroma floating through the air is both sweet savory I change and join the growing crowd jazz is still playing lightly in the background there’s laughter good conversation everyone is relaxed and enjoying themselves I sit back in amazement; what started off as the typical day has been transformed into anything but typical and all because of the amazing woman in my life . . . here’s a toast to you |
