I did like the old Total Recall movie. I'm interested in how they will do the new one. But, yeah, the movie industry is making too many movie remakes. noway

Hollywood does do some original movies, they have The Hunger Games...oh wait, that's a rip off of Battle Royale, The Running Man, and The Most Dangerous Game...nevermind.

Jessical Biel is also good as an actor but I've got a piece of 2x4 that can act better than Kate Beckinsale laugh

Early Sharon Stone was great in the original...can't see Kate making as much as an impression as Shazzer did laugh

Total Recall was taken from Philip K Dick short story ""We Can Remember It for You Wholesale"

Blade Runner with Harrison Ford was also based on a Philip K Dick novel.

He is good reading.

There's been quite a few movies adapted from his work- Paycheck, The Minority Report, The Adjustment Bureau, Next, A Scanner Darkly, Screamers '95, Impostor.

They have already remade the horror genre to death, so I guess they are starting with older cheesy action films now?

Is that what's going on in Hollywood?

Yeah...don't be fooled by the screen name. I lost all faith in Hollywood after they ran out of horror remakes to film.

I mainly watch older, "original" films now.

I have stopped watching television & trailers for new films completely. Don't really see the point. Can't stand reality television series, and I don't care to watch a trailer of a remake that I will more than likely never see.

I may have to find a new hobby & change my screen name. For shame...

Hollywood will never run out of horror films to remake, they still have over a hundred years of horror films, plus anytime a foreign horror film becomes popular enough they can remake that...or they don't even have to wait for a movie to be over 10 years old, now they just wait 5 years. Plus when a remake is old enough, they can then reboot it.

There's plenty of excellent cinema being made outside of Hollywood, I haven't relied on Hollywood to entertain me in over 20 years(except a few good films here and there)

True. I am still a big supporter of Independent Film. And...I will admit...I actually don't mind some of the remakes or "reboots". Hell I even like a few BETTER than the original. It just blows my mind that it is so hard to find ORIGINAL stories to be put on screen these days. But...I guess it's all about the money. As long as the remakes continue to rake in the dough, the Hollywood producers will continue to beat them into the ground. :/

There's a few remakes that I consider classics like John Carpenter's The Thing. And there's remakes that are great entertainment- Dawn Of The Dead '04, and The Crazies. But some you do wonder why they even bothered like The Wicker Man with Nic Cage, though it did end up being one of the greatest comedies of the 2000's.

And you're right, Hollywood won't take a chance on films like Trick R Treat, but have no problem churning out junk like the Elm Street remake.

My understanding is that this "version" of Total Recall is more closely based on Dick's work. The 1990 version was a good film for what it was. And since this version isn't going to be an exact copy of that film, I feel it is worth seeing. Not to mention I love sci-fy anyways. Lol. I mean, do you really think that Colin Farrel will utter the phrase, "Consider dat a divorce" in this movie? laugh

Haha. I really dig the original. It holds a certain nostalgic charm for me, like so many other films of that era.

I'm only interested enough for a free rental on redbox. Not interested enough to shell out the $10 movie ticket.

I'm of the same opinion...I don't think I'll be rushing to the cinema to watch this either.

***** writeings are way more sinister than most of the movie versions. I may go see it if it more like the book. His writeings are hard to make films from, verry dark and phycological cinema just cant catch that genie in a bottle.

Blad Runner touched on it somewhat.
