Some non-super hero comic book/graphic novel movies I like:

Ghost World
V For Vendetta
Red '10
American Splendor
Fritz The Cat(though Robert Crumb hated it so much he killed off Fritz)
Barbarella
Tank Girl

tank girl was great! Lori Petty's best and only good film.
I'm surprised no one has said spawn yet...

That character was perfect for her.

I saw Spawn in the theater but don't remember it much, supposedly there's a new version being made.

yea thats what I'm running into R-Sin. I'm not trying to collect them ..just want to read them and then maybe pass them on. Must be some somewhere in a swap shop or library or something

Oh yeah, definitely libraries. That's how I got to the first couple volumes.

1. I thought the first Spider Man film was pretty spot on. The casting. The story. I read a lot of the comics as a kid & it was almost how I had imagined it.

2. X-Men 2. Same thing.

3. Watchmen. Everything except the altered apocalyptic side story. I'm sure they just used the graphic novel as storyboards.

4. Not a film, but the series Tales From The Crypt.

5. Spider Man 2.

I'm still a big fan of the 70's live-action TV series version of Spider Man. Also the TV series version of The Incredible Hulk with Bill Bixby. And as cheesy as it is, Wonder Woman with Lynda Carter.

The serials from the 1940's for Batman, Superman, Captain Marvel, Green Hornet are a hoot. In the Batman serials they were so low budget they couldn't afford to have Batman drive around in his Batmobile, so they use a regular car, and Batman and Robin sit in the backseat while Alfred drives.

I can't blame you... speaking of, anyone else geek out a bit when Lou Ferrigno showed up in The Incredible Hulk?

Yes...also loved it when Lou had a recurring role on The King Of Queens as himself, and they would always tease him about playing The Hulk.

Had to mention a couple of "Honorable Mentions" here.

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: Edgar Wright is going to have his breakout hit here soon. I can just feel it. Yeah, he has made a few successful films, but this one was supposed to be a breakout hit for him. Sadly, most of the population just did not "get" this movie. Which is a shame cause it is a great movie. I would blame Michael Cera as to why this movie didn't do well. But the guy plays Scott Pilgrim very well. I guess if you aren't a geek/nerd/dork then you just won't appreciate this movie.

The Crow: I'll always wonder if Brandon Lee would have become the next big action star. I mean, the momentum he had leading up to The Crow suggested he was well on his way. Sadly, his life was cut short. What's even sadder is that he portrays a guy who is killed for no reason than being at the wrong place at the wrong time (which also happened in his real life). In this way, it was haunting to watch this movie (the first time) knowing the circumstances of his death. The movie itself is dark, violent, gritty....has a great soundtrack, great performances from not only Lee but Michael Wincott as well. I've seen scenes that had the character The Skull Cowboy (who is like a guide for Draven in that he tells Draven why he was allowed to come back) and I'm glad Proyas (The director) decided to cut them. The final product is a true gem.

As long as Edgar Wright keeps making movies he wants to make, and doesn't become another non-American director lured in by Hollywood to churn out forgettable mainstream crap( John Woo, Ronny Yu, Ang Lee....)
