You build a house one brick at a time. You build a marriage, one kind word, one kind deed, one moment at a time, and then another and another. Consistently. Over time. Your marriage is WORTH every drop of love and effort you put into it!♥

No, all you have to do is sign the contract. Poof! You are married.

Some things are easier to get into that out of.

Marriage is more then a piece of paper. If you believe marriage goes no further then a little piece of paper, that's as far as your marriage will go.

Marriage is about commitment, it is about love. If you do not believe this, then your marriage will not last. And may be the reason most marriages these days don't last.

I think marriage is about raising children. That takes commitment. But I think you can raise children without actually getting married. I know a couple who did. Of course their "marriage" is now common law.

It is not really about love, but it is nice if you do love your spouse.

But originally marriage was about having children and sticking to the same gene pool.

You are correct.

Commitment on the other hand is worked on and nurtured if important to someone.

No, Marriage is a committment and a showing of committment towards another.

When two get married, they are saying -
- They will be by their side for eternity
- They will love them eternally
- They will not "step out" on them eg., they will be faithful for eterinity.

Yes they don't have to be married to say that or to specifically show that to some extent. If one marries then cheats or any other foul possibility, they lied. They lied in their vows, they lied even in the act of getting married.

That is why marriage is more then just a piece of paper. It's a concept, it is discipline, it is faithfulness. It is giving your life for this person you married. Handing it over to them on a silver platter promising/vowing to be there for them and with them for eterntiy.

No, they are saying UNTIL DEATH DO US PART.
(NOT ETERNITY)

It is until death, not until eternity.

I don't want to stay with the same person for eternity. One lifetime is all I can handle, then I want a new mate for my next life.

"Till death do us part" is not scriptural though. Is only what they say at the marriages. Don't know where they get their idea from either.

Matthew 18:18

18Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
------------

Matthew 19:4-6

4And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female,

5And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?

6Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.

No marriage is legal document that is binding for legal matters.

It is a piece of paper.

People can make complete commitment to each other without it.

None of that says that you will be with your mate for eternity.

Heaven is not eternal.

Yes they can.

Don't make contracts with the STATE.
Marriage is a contract with the STATE. If you don't believe that, try to get a divorce. You have to pay the STATE.

I totally agree, thank you for the sentiment, though its hard to live by
