For the Soul


My eyes
paint the picture
that my soul embraces
as the river flows
with midnight’s fire
dancing across
its mystical
ebbing waves

Nothing seems to stay forever

Mosaic rhythms
different notes
music
abstract because it makes me feel
different than you
yet the sound we hear
is likened
to an unforgettable moment
we both appreciate

And yet, nothing remains the same

A deep sigh
and a wish
for just once
that the light flickering
just above the horizon
isn’t a mirage
but a reminder
that nothing has to last forever

It just has to be familiar enough to be remembered
