I love my folks man and appreciate every effort and sacrifice they made to give us stability and security and love(even if it was something they were 'supposed' to do, Im able to know how to APPRECIATE It not just with a word but through ACTION)_ so,,,,I guess I am a bit stubborn when folks who dont know them make sweeping judgments about what kind of parents they are based on nothing but knowledge of being 'spanked' Well, I meant stubborn in a good way  ...and I agree, sweeping judgements about parenting methods are almost always wrong....It is the same with any sweeping judgement one makes about another's relationship with ANYONE....Only the people directly involved know the "total" context of the relationship...

spanking is for the purpose of inflicting pain. for some for others it is a learning and disciplinary tool spanking is for the purpose of inflicting pain in the hope that the person being spanked will fear being spanked enough that he will avoid getting caught the next time. very broadly, any NEGATIVE consequence is 'painful' on either an emotional or physical level but that doesnt mean the PURPOSE of discipline is the 'pain' why did nature cause it to hurt so damn much when we put our hand over an open flame? because that 'sensation' of being in discomfort/pain is a great deterrent from doing something that is causing HARM to our body that we may otherwise not realize until after the damage was done consequences have a purpose, whether they are good or bad, to teach a lesson of some sort,,, Yes I agree with that. And when you go into a bar and start a fight with some big dude and get your butt kicked you can certainly say the same thing. When you pull a gun and shoot at the police and get shot back, you can say the same thing. Consequences. What would be the point of a spanking if there was no pain? So pain is the objective. But okay we know the basic idea is painful consequences. But with this applied logic we must now draw a line between a painful spanking and a beating or abuse. Anytime you make it okay to spank but not okay to abuse or beat a child, you then have to draw the line between the two. It is not black and white. There are ways to torture people both mentally and physically without causing physical harm to their bodies. So where do you draw the line with torture? Physical harm to the body? How can you know the mental harm you are inflicting on a person? |

I agree it was perverse, the language used, the use of spanking at 16 implies that it wasnt an effective tool for that particular child (my last spanking was probably in grade school) the need for discipline I agree with spanking as disciplinary action, I Agree with spanking a 16 year old, doesnt offend me, but it does imply that the discipline part of the parenting equation has been lacking for this particular family,,,, |

Baptists are baptists...doesn't matter what family a baptist is in. The religion teaches the same concept on capitol punishment regardless. Yes, msharmony..you HAVE posted that you do support the war. Well, I'm sure your son knows your religious stance on homosexuality. He must know his life style choices bother you. He may be acting out. Kids that get knocked around do funny things sometimes when we no longer have them in our grips.
