I don't even want to know if there are any here....when I know they are I usually have to make remarks, which isn't very nice of me, but..I just can't help myself. They are nothing to me since 4 yrs ago!

I do not know what jail creation is thinking of...but, I have been there and we had no tv or radio or anything good. We barely had one blanket and a very small pillow with a bed that was sooooo thin you could feel the metal. Cold breakfast (yuk) and the warm food in the nmoon was anything but something to write home about. The dinner wasn't any better. Maybe once a week it was good. The women were not allowed the same priveledges as the men. What little comforts we had we had to sneak in. Like salt and pepper. Bleach to clean our rooms and floors with. Not to mention the mold on the floors and walls of the showers. Nope...huh uh. Not a good place to be.

Oh...and by the way...there are police and more here.

Scattr- the prisons around here treat 'em a lot better than that. They get three good hot meals (should have seen their menus for the holidays - ham and turkey, all the trimmings and when I was in forestry camp they got roast baron of elk and salmon too, free dental, psych, medical. Color TV, recreation, air conditioning in the summer if they are in a hot area. If the women come into the system pregnant, they keep them in a special unit and they keep their babies with them until they are 1 year old. They have banned smoking in prisons now in Washington State. Free education, can get an AA through the prison system for free. Vocational training.
So they get treated pretty well around here.

Must be nice. The ones I know of are dangerous and anything but good. We looked forward to the preacher lady and man to come around just so we could make some noise and hear outside stories. A person would come in once every couple of months and cut our hair for us if we wanted it.

As far as medical, we were offered Amatrpitoline. Puts me in the hospital. That was their way of keeping the women under check. Keep'em drugged. The women were very angry and mean. Didn't take much to get a riot. Woman upon woman rape is pretty common. Very harsh.

As for hot meals....they may start out that way, but they are not warm when you get them. Thanksgiving dinners and Christmas dinners are well deserved. They are still people. Since it is against the rules to have pictures and stuff we had to make things out of toilet paper wrapping and toothpaste (better than wall paper paste).

Maybe some think it is a good a safe cushy place, but one should try and live it.

I might mention that there are many many there, that should not be there. Symantics, poor, and just plain not represented. Just as there are many out that should be there because they could afford adequate counsil.

They had regular visitation with their families and they were allowed pictures of their families. They had a special needs unit where the elderly, medically infirm, and those they thought would be easily targeted and abused by the rest of the population were housed so they could be protected more closely. No prison is perfect or fun, but they do get treated pretty well up here and they did their best to protect the inmates from each other. They try to make sure they are treated as fairly and with respect as possible. I am sure there are people in there who shouldn't be because of inadequate counsel, as you say. The places you talk about, are quite different from the system up here. Sounds pretty awful.
