I also like to have differences because I can learn something new...or we can learn something new together.

I don't want to be with someone and have their eyes glaze over because I want to discuss something that they have no interest in or feel the need to dumb down my language as that wouldn't be fair to either of us.

I just need to be able to be myself with whomever I'm with.

Don't know if complete opposites will ever work. Least for me. I need things in common to go on with someone. I'm like this with friends too. I think it'd be hard to try to relate to someone if its a "night or day" thing.

I wouldn't want to be complete opposites, just like I wouldn't want to have all the same interests. Variety is a good thing. I want to try new things and learn new things. I want to be able to show them something they may not have been interested in to begin with as well.

No..complete opposites wouldn't work for me either. There would need to be some common ground.

Someone mentioned respect and maybe space to go along with it. I know I don't want him knowing too much about me right away.

Someone can only know as much as you choose to tell them.

With some people, I've been like an open book and no subjects been off limits whereas with other's, it can take a while.

I'm not that way. I don't hold back things about me when getting to know someone. If he wants to know about something, I'll tell him. So I like when the guy is the same way.

Lifestyle compatibility is one of the many pieces of the relationship puzzle.

True...I guess I prefer to keep somewhat of a mystery in the beginning. I want to wait to see if he's at all interested before I let my guard down completely.

Hmm, I'm not holding back anything. If he wants to know more, then its fine. Just depends on what it is. I prefer not to make every conversation about their exes (shows they haven't moved on/let go), OR reliving painful memories. Abuse, violence, stuff that's just hard to talk about. Those things make me pull back into myself. But I don't see it as being closed off. I try not to live in the past when I get to know someone new.

When you say it depends on what he wants to know, then you are holding back. I'm not saying it's wrong. It just isn't something that I do. That's all.

Well, I guess that's your interuptation of what I'm trying to say, really isn't it at all. I don't like discussing violence, pain and being hurt. Something I just can't do well/don't like.

Do you? I don't know, if we're going to assume answers here, I was going to go with that much since EVERYthing is pretty much on the table. All subjects considered.

Who ever invented that opposites attract phrase is the bigger liar in history lol. You have to share a common bond and have to enjoy life together. Which means most of the time doing the same stuff.

Fortunately, I don't have any violence in my past. Do I have things that have hurt me? Sure. Will I talk about them with someone I'm getting to know? Absolutely, if they want to know.

You don't have to do the same stuff over and over, or even the same stuff together all the time to enjoy life with someone.

some of this depends I think (for some anyway) on whether there has been a lot of pain in the past or tragic situations

what people who have never been through that do not understand is, that asking someone to talk about it is like asking him/her to relive it

because emotionally, that is what happens - it's something most people may not realize but it's true
