I crashed the Ford. I lit the match.
O misery, come back to me. O hatred, now I need you most. Redlined down the rocky coast; My F-150 met the tree. Skull impacted, fractured, framed... I'm invincible as Irish shame. And where's my bloodline trace the shore. And erase my lifeline, light the flame. I lit the match; the fuse was bent, My pockets drenched in piss and blood. And somewhere in the red rock mud, Hell's inviting me to sweat. Oh, I lit the match, O misery. Come back to me - I need you now. I crashed the car, my sweet machine, who never did a thing to me. O hatred, now, come back, return, I lit the match inside my urn. O vanity I'm calling you, come scorch my heart, ignite my name. Leak out, O life, breathe out, now that I'm here entrapped in some blue night. I lit the match but cursed the flame that burnt my eyes and brought me sight. I crashed the car, I bent the frame. Come back to me, O misery. I'm a steady shot like Novocaine. I lit the match. I traced the flame. I'm invincible as Irish shame. |

the first time I read this, I did so with the cadence of a nursery rhyme, but it is far too complex for that. I had to chop it up into little pieces to be able to put it back together again and see inside of it. as always, it was worth the effort!
Leak out, O life, breathe out, now that I'm here entrapped in some blue night. I lit the match but cursed the flame that burnt my eyes and brought me sight. i so feel this..... |
