The Earth Girl

I met the most amazing man
And fell in love too soon.

He really cared about me
And offered me the moon.

But I am just an earth girl
Who doesn't want to take flight.

I love gravity and
Staying here quite tight.

He couldn't understand
When he could offer the universe.

That is not why I loved him or
What drew me to him at first.

I loved him because he was decent,
kind, honest, had integrity and was strong.

He was very creative and amazing
And everything for which I had longed.

He couldn't understand why when
Everyone else wanted these other things,
That a simple earth girl who
Never wanted to sprout wings.

So my romance ended.
Feelings hurt and things confused.
But I know in the end
He knows at least he wasn't used.

I am still that simple earth girl
As he flies around the universe.

Maybe he takes comfort in knowing
He can always land here when his ship bursts.

And someone will pick him up
And care about him,
If he loses everything or worse.
