I received these reasons many times over: - he was a widower - his wife died of breast cancer - he gives a non-existent phone number - he was very eager to get a phone number/email address - he was an Engineer in the US based/on contract at the UK - he has a very out dated/blurry/distorted/solitary picture on profile yup and he has a daughter this is a UK scam that has been around for about 3 years Thanks, I thought I am just being paranoid ![]() |

I feel sorry for the legit widow/widowers with kids; but I know when I was first widowed, with teenagers, I would not put it on line so always kind of feels creepy to me. Of course that has been years ago.

What I don't get is if they have the computer access and time to put this "stuff" out there in mass what do they get out of it? Surely people are geting savy not to give these scammers money or other perks. What is the deal with signing people up for Yahoo.messenger? Isn't that a free service?

This is also true for the military scam. In this one he is stationed overseas and often has a child staying with a relative and he will want you to send money (eventually) to help him come home because his military pay is going to his child. I did follow up on one who was particularly good - even had a few minutes on the phone with him. Within 5 minutes of talking he asked me how much money I had - was sussing my financial situation in the guise of my affording to visit him - they were simply well disguised questions to see if I was wealthy - I deleted the messenger account that I was communicating with him on and no longer will communicate via personal IM from dating sites |

He is actually most likely sitting in a roomful of computers in Nigeria ![]() |

Surely people are geting savy not to give these scammers money or other perks. What is the deal with signing people up for Yahoo.messenger? Isn't that a free service? They want to get you off-site (like away from here!), and into another venue where there is less monitoring and removal of scammers. They know that they will be removed from sites like this one if their scamming is reported. |

My favorite ones are the phoney military ones. Lazy scammers. Yep, I must say that really burns me to see that. I do take that personally. |

I could not imagine, if the entire platoon of an army was just destined to chat. Almost everybody has the same reason. Well, I don't like arguments so I just block them. I close my IM and talk only to people I find sensible. End of story ![]() |
