My brother has AD/HD and was on Ritalin as a child..then they switched him to concerta and he had seizures while taking it..the seizures stopped once we took him off the concerta.

well i will watch for that.He is on a low dose of Ritalin now but it is not working to temper the hyperactivity.

If he's on a low dose of Ritalin..why aren't they just raising it to see if that helps instead of putting him on the concerta?noway

I take Concerta....It works..It is non-addictive. It is a bit strong, but they can find the proper dose for you.

Because the ritalin is not time release.Concerta releases throughout the day and is more even.with the ritalin he was too up and down.

my daughter was on adderall for quite a while...and then they changed her to concerta. it was horrible...she would curl up in constant pain...her stomach hurt her so bad she couldn't hold down any food...they said it would pass, but it certainly didn't.

after a month, we switched back.

My friend has her young son on Concerta she swears by it. My vote is for Adderall tho. Check it out if Concerta doesnt work out for you. Ritalin is a old ADD drug, there are more new and improved meds. If ya want info on Adderall check out www.adderallxr.com. When you get to that site there should be available an option to get free info mailed to you. (cd and literature). It is the new rave for ADHD.

There is also a newer type of medication called Daytrana it comes in the form of a Patch.

Good Luck.

thanx everyone.i will certainly be watching for bad side effects.right now it is just finding the best medicine for him.
my doctor thinks he will peel the patch off and seeing how long he keeps a bad aid on i tend to agree.

Good onya mom! my boy is allergic to ritalin BUT he has been taking Adderallxr for years with NO SIDE EFFECTS. These drugs are there for a REASON. Your child will be able to sit down, focus and you will see heaps of good coming from the medication prescribed. Remember as they mature its not just getting good grades with ADHD its also relationships with friends, later on girlfriends, self esteem issues. This is a really GOOD THING you just did!!! KUDOS TO YOU MOM!!!!drinker drinker drinker drinker drinker
If you have any worries or concerns just give me a holler!!!!flowerforyou I am ONE parent who strongly BELIEVES these medications work. My boy is LIVING PROOF that even with AUTISM and severe ADHD he is overcoming the horrors of this disease thanks to Adderall and the company that makes it!!!
