It must have been really bad cause they even showed it on our news.

does that help? also if your switching out your filter look for the dirty side and that should give you a HINT

the arrows point up....they face you as you insert the filter.

My filter goes in horizontially. I just checked the old one and one side doesn't look and dirtier.
