The desert
He calls it home Brilliant sunrises Vibrant sunsets Life flourishes Life withers away Winds blow Harshly driving the sand Into your skin But to him its home Where all his dreams begin He takes me by the hand Shows me where the lizards run Shows me the beauty of the desert wildflowers in bloom How the cactus and yucca grow Teaches me the scent of water in the air Whispers of the people who lived so long ago The day they all just walked away Leaving everything where it lay We stand in the center of the city in stone Listening to the voices of the past The heat of the sun beating down on our heads He pulls me deeper into the canyons Where so few have tread Giving me the gift of his desert Through his words I have come to know it His desert, he calls it home Where all his dreams begin |
