Topic: Profiles | |

What do you expect from profiles? Not much, anymore -- vapidity, illiteracy, a complete lack of anything relevant or interesting or topical or worth reading, for that matter. Most profiles stand as a firm reminder that imitation is the sincerest form of laziness. And plagiarism, too. Before contacting someone, do you look at their profile? I read a fair number of profiles. I admit it. This is a masochistic tendency. I can't help it. Seriously, I won't write to anybody first, but I do look at a lot of profiles. Particularly if it's someone who has sent me a message or an IM, or who has nudged me or looked at my profile. Do you read, or at least skim over it? Do you only look at pictures? Since most profiles are only seven words in length ("I don't know what to write here"), they don't take that long to read. And I do look at pictures. If you have questions for someone new you're chatting with, do you look at the profile to see if any of them are answered already? Yup, and, inevitably, I'm now reasonably certain that the person doesn't know what to write here. When writing your profile, what do you add? Everything I can think of, whether it makes any sense or not. |

What do you expect from profiles? Thus far, inflated egos. When writing your profile, what do you add?
Well, since I am writing for a human population, I cut to the chase and reveal what is most important to me. I don't try to describe myself in egotistical language. I don't have to. My Melmacian origin says enough. |

Why the hell would you answer e-mails from completely random total strangers? Seeing as this is a site to meet new people, why not? |

What do you think of profiles with photos of young children or grandchildren from a safety issue? It seems that child abusers would be looking to befriend women with small children, gain their confidence... until they have an opportunity to be alone with them...

I would not put pictures of young children on a site like this. I can understand the parents/grandparents are proud of them, but save those pictures to for later. The profile is supposed to be about you, not your kids.

I think you are correct. Most members of this site do not participate in the forums.
Someone emailed me recently and I suggested getting more involved in the forums. He didn't seem to get why it might help, or what the benefits were. |
