I don't believe paypal sends you emails asking for *any* kind of ID

If you have a paypal account... log in first and check for messages.

I get scam emails saying I have to update my paypal account (I have one, but never used it)... click here to log in (the link doesn't take you to the actual paypal website, but someone else's website with a page that *looks* the same.

Be Careful noway

Crooks can hijack the site too and redirect you to their look-alike.

Hummm when you go and establish a business they issue you a tax ID # which is not your SS #. You have to give them your SS# and fill out the paper work to get a tax ID#. But they do not use your SS# as that number..

Anyone that ask you over the phone or through e-mail for your personal info you should see a red flag real fast. Never give out such info when they are requested in this manner.

Kristi is right, Queene. You should mail or contact paypal directly. If you have a pay pal account, then that information is already in their database.

We're asking for your tax ID number due to new IRS rules. Your tax ID
number is one of these:
- Your Social Security number
- Your Individual Tax Identification Number
- Your Employer Identification Number

We'll use your tax ID number to send tax Form 1099-K to you and the IRS
when the payments you receive exceed both of these milestones in a calendar
year:
- $20,000 in gross payment volume for goods and services
- 200 payments

We want to help you continue to sell with PayPal and to avoid any
interruption to your account. It's easy — here's how:
1. Log in to your PayPal account.
2. A message will appear asking you to update your information.
3. Click Provide Now.

If you have multiple PayPal accounts, repeat these steps for each account.

We appreciate your help in complying with these IRS rules. For more
information, please see our FAQs on the IRS reporting requirements:
www.paypal.com/irs

Sincerely,
PayPal

Well when one sells things as a business they have to account for income when it comes to the IRS. This way you will have to pay taxes on the things you are selling...All a part of making money is you have to pay the taxes on the income one is receiving....whoa
