It is possible for me to be wrong, but in this case regarding this matter, I'm certain that I'm not.

Your all or nothing mentality is lacking in it's ability to account for how we think/believe. Being certain is not having any reason to doubt. Being absolutely certain is dismissing the idea that any such reasons exist.
They are not the same thing. |

If you say so.
Maybe we don't all think/believe the same way. |

I would feel better then, when someone asks me if I am "certain", saying:
"At this moment, I have no reason to doubt it" Rather than saying "Yes, I am certain." But I guess in common ordinary situations, that is just too many words. And of course, polygraph exams demand a yes or a no. |

I am absolutely certain that that is a tree and that these are hands. I am not certain what kind of tree that is, but I am absolutely certain that that is "a tree" and that these are "hands". I have no reason to doubt otherwise, and because of the nature of language, no such reason exists.
Are you suggesting that there is reason to doubt these things? |

In some rare situations yes. fake tree: http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/parks/animal-kingdom/attractions/the-tree-of-life/ Phantom hand: http://perception.questacon.edu.au/phantom.html |

You're grasping at straws. "Fake tree" is meaningless without being certain what a tree is.

You're grasping at straws. "Fake tree" is meaningless without being certain what a tree is. Whatever. You asked me a question. I answered it. |

I take it you see the point being made, and it does not land well, even as true as it is.
"Fake tree" has no meaning whatsoever without prior certainty regarding what a tree is. |

That is a "tree", and this is not, because it is fake.

That is a "tree", and this is not, because it is fake. "fake tree" was just the title to the thread to clue you in to what I was linking to. A person who does not know any better might be certain that is a tree. But it is not. |

I take it you see the point being made, and it does not land well, even as true as it is. Perhaps you are mistaken. You asked a question. I answered the question. If it does not land well with you that has nothing to do with me. |

Your all or nothing mentality is lacking in it's ability to account for how we think/believe. . have you ever participated in a discussion where you addressed only what people post without attacking their mentality or thinking abilities? |

That is a fine line, which I consciously attempt to not cross, but sometimes fail. The argument is a refelction of the thinking behind it. The two are one in the same, to point out a lacking in the argument is to point out a lacking in the thinking. Keeping that on an impersonal level requires not talking about the poster themselves, but rather pointing out issues within what was written.
The response of mine which you quoted could have been better worded. |

I still do not find that that constitutes being an attack on her person.

I still do not find that that constitutes being an attack on her person. Creative, you seldom engage in threads or conversations where people do NOT feel offended or attacked by you. Then, if they do, you blame THEM and play innocent. Its seems to be the game you play. |

Actively questioning another's belief tends to cause offense to those who are easily offended. I play no games, and that set of statements is about me personally. Although, it doesn't offend. Just sayin'. |

Keeping count would divulge truth. Care to go back and look at who makes claims about who personally and tally up the results? I mean, c'mon. No one is perfect, and I do not mean to offend you personally, if I have.
What more can be said? |
