The useful idiots strike again.

Egyptians Turn Against Liberal Protesters

CAIRO—Mobs of ordinary Egyptians joined with soldiers to drive pro-democracy protesters from their encampment in Tahrir Square here Monday, showing how far the uprising's early heroes have fallen in the eyes of the public.

Six months after young, liberal activists helped lead the popular movement that ousted President Hosni Mubarak, the hard core of these protesters was forcibly dispersed by the troops. Some Egyptians lined the street to applaud the army. Others ganged up on the activists as they retreated from the square that has come to symbolize the Arab Spring.

Squeezed between an assertive military and the country's resurgent Islamist movement, many Internet-savvy, pro-democracy activists are finding it increasingly hard to remain relevant in a post-revolutionary Egypt that is struggling to overcome an economic crisis and restore law and order.

"The liberal and leftist groups that were at the forefront of the revolution have lost touch with the Egyptian people," says Shadi Hamid, director of research at the Brookings Institution's Doha Center. "These protesters have alienated much of Egypt. For some time they've been deceiving themselves by saying that the silent majority is on their side—but all evidence points to the contrary, and Monday's events confirm that."

Monday's turmoil in Tahrir followed a massive Friday demonstration on the same square by hundreds of thousands of Islamists, who called for transforming Egypt into an Islamic state—and railed against the liberal and secular youths who had helped motivate millions to rise up against Mr. Mubarak.

I keep saying to the liberals "LOOK AT EGYPT AND TELL ME ABOUT HOW PEACEFUL ISLAM IS," and they refuse to see what has become of Egypt with their visions of Democracy thrust upon Egypt. Now the country is descending slowly into utter Anarchy!

This is what Most liberals come off to me as...

They pretend they believe in a structured and civil society without rules. Well, how much of an Oxymoron is that?

I see the liberal mindset as immature and dishonest.

How anyone can take my money for whatever glorious reason, without my agreement or permission, and not call it Theft, is beyond me.

This is exactly how I feel about Taxes on Tips and Wages too.. The government it stealing money from me.

As you probably know, the only legal income tax for the Feds is inter-state taxation.

But,but, but, it was the neo-con dream that, once America established Democracy in Iraq, all the other mideast would see how wonderful it is and they would want it too.

America had no hand in Egypt's adventure. The Egyptians had a chance at self-determination. It isn't even finished yet. I have no doubt that if Americans had recognized the fascism that the Bush Administration fostering and driven him out, Dick Cheney's admirers would be staging something like this. Mitch McConnell has been telling all along what the "American people" want and, just like that, this spokesman is telling us, through a controlled medium, how "of of touch" Egypt's liberals are. It is childish and naive to just take the word of somebody named Shadi Hamid, Especially in an article from a newspaper owned by Rupert Murdoch.

As usual, you skip the substance and proceed directly to shill mode.

I find it rather amusing that the useful idiots and their handlers are now faced with either a Mubarak style military dictatorship or an Islamic Republic.

It is what they deserve. It is what the idiots in the West deserve for meddling and forcing Mubarak out.

I can't say that I would be disappointed to see a hardline Islamic Republic.

The antithesis of leftist agenda..

Wow! I think you have a news scoop! I don't remember anybody in the west meddling and forcing your hero out.

Interestingly, the only reference I found on the first page of my Google search were from the WSJ and conservative blogs.

I found a much more interesting entry from another blog.
With the new political muscle the Salafists showed in Egypt today, the Muslim Brotherhood is the least of our worries. I'm a liberal, Christian Egyptian-American (born in LA but I've been to Egypt many times) and I am horrified at the potential for disaster right now, though I am still trying to be optimistic because I am powerless to change anything (and if the elections put Moussa or El Baradei in power, as I hope they will, all will be well).

The MB, while by no means desirable, is far better than the Salafists--who are radical Islamists sympathetic to Al Qaeda who despise Christians, women, and secularists. The Salafists who were out there were waving purely Islamic and Saudi Arabian flags, none had Egyptian flags--their loyalty is to Islam only. The MB, on the other hand, at least tries to moderate its image, which is in and of itself far more than the Salafists do. Furthermore, because of the relative diversity of the MB and its large professional class, it will maintain relations with the US, will at least attempt some semblance of economic policies, will probably give token concessions and protections to Christians, and will be flexible towards tourists (i.e. allowing alcohol, etc.), none of which can be relied on the Salafists to do, who have already taken vigilante justice in their own hands in towns in Upper Egypt. They publicly advocate returning to Koran-era punishment sanctioned by Shariah (possibly the most anti-democratic legal code in the history of mankind).

You should also cover what happened in the border town of El-Arish, which is on the Gaza border. One hundred and fifty masked gunmen, many of whom had beards and were waving black Islamic flags and chanting Islamic slogans, went on a rampage. They tried to burn down a statue of Anwar Sadat and attacked two police stations and in the process killed anywhere from two to seven civilians, injuring many more. I hope this gets publicized in the West. These Salafists, are a cross between Hamas, Iran, and the Taliban. They are repulsive, and must be stopped at all costs. Those who love freedom and human life must stop at nothing to prevent the Salafists from realizing any power.
