Vice President Biden compared Tea Party Republicans to “terrorists” during a private meeting with House Democrats on Monday, a senior Democratic official told Fox News.

The official said Biden made the comments in reaction to a heated conversation with liberal House members like Rep. Mike Doyle, D-Pa., who were venting that Republicans got too much out of the debt ceiling deal unveiled the night before.

Biden said some Tea Party Republicans “acted like terrorists” during the negotiations.

The comment drew an immediate rebuke from Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., one of the most outspoken Tea Party-aligned lawmakers in Congress.

“With the president holding the American economy hostage, I would prefer to think of myself as a Freedom Fighter,” Paul said in a statement, calling the remarks “insulting.”

But the Democratic official stressed that Biden made the comment to move the conversation along. According to the official, Biden added that despite the Republicans’ behavior, “we got a lot out of this deal.”

The vice president's office also downplayed the quote.

"The word was used by several members of Congress. The vice president does not believe it's an appropriate term in political discourse," Biden spokeswoman Kendra Barkoff said.

Nobody has yet explained to me how this is a blunder, or even why there is anything wrong with this.

There is nothing wrong with it if you want to keep separating the people of this country.
I find it funny that liberals won't use the phrase war on terror and have changed it to overseas contingency plan. Won't call radical Muslims terrorists.
But you have a group of people who want to stop the government from spending us into ablivion and the get labeled a terrorist. Give me a break and get a clue.
