First off, do some research. Before 1960, Republicans were more like Democrats and vice versa, so Republicans were progressive liberals (anti-slavery was an liberal and progressive idea back in those days) ... the opposite of what they are today. My favorite talk-show host mentioned the most interesting fact this morning. I looked it up, and it's true Ronald Reagan gave his first post-convention speech in Philadelphia, Mississippi in 1980.
