The Edge of a New York Night


The edge of night
and city lights
awaken the day
it’s about to begin

Smooth jazz
lingers
sensually throughout the moment
SoCo
and a twist of lime
friends
among strangers
chatting
and tapping to the rhythm
it has begun

The window
reveals that darkness
has erased the shadows
the sunset discovered
giving way to the moon’s reality . . . that what happens in the dark
could possibly come to light . . . if things go right

So we laugh a bit more
wondering
if it’s possible to take the night home with us
another SoCo for me
while she enjoys a chocolate martini
we talk a bit more
realizing the apple wasn’t too big
after all
we found each other
and now
neither of us wants it to end
