not much the states can do realistically. as you yourself said, national sovereignty is provided for in the constitution and not a power of the states. that is not entirely true as this is what is now being tested in Arizona and I think part of what will happen is a definition of where states can enact local legislation |

I beleive it says...
something to the effect of congress and or the government can TAKE FROM the states only those things that the STATE deems not to be a SOVERIGN RIGHT the state TAKE UNTO itself rights on behalf of its Citizens... forgive me if I are wrong. But I think not. |

however, it is the President's responsibility to see that local law does not violate the constitution - or your rights and mine not so in the least. that responsibility and the power rests solely with the judiciary. technically yes - I was generalizing to the federal gov't and the Prez does appoint the supreme ct not without advise and consent of the senate. |
