Peck: If You're Brown, You're Going Down
Hey, we didn't say it.

After a bit of a hiatus, DOTR is back! We were waiting for just the right issue on which to jump back in, and we think we found it (Or at least we hope we found it. If this doesn't epitomize Statehouse Crazy, we're all screwed).

Today in the Kansas House Appropriations Committee, during a discussion about methods used to exterminate feral swine (which include shooting them from a helicopter), Rep. Virgil Peck (R- Tyro) suggested that Kansas should use the same approach to address immigration.

“It looks like to me if shooting these immigrating feral hogs works maybe we have found a [solution] to our illegal immigration problem,” said Peck.

Peck was approached by press after the committee meeting. He was unapologetic and said he was “just joking.”

"I was just speaking like a southeast Kansas person," Peck said to the Lawrence Journal Word.

Yes, Virgil. Everyone in Southeast Kansas believes that we should respond to immigration by sniping down brown people from a helicopter. Should we bother checking their citizenship status first or should we just go off "their olive complexion," as suggested by your colleague, Rep. Connie O'Brien?

So much for toning down the rhetoric after the tragedy in Tucson.

It's worth noting that at the end of February, the Kansas Republican Party called union members protesting in the Capitol "thugs." What seems more thuggish to you: Kansas workers exercising their right to free speech in a public building (in protest to a bill that suffocated their First Amendment rights), or an elected representative suggesting we should gun down immigrants like pigs?

Even to me it is SICK that they even suggest

WOW, I agree with you on something.

This thought process is the result of people making the immigrants less than themselves. They would never even joke of hunting citizens that way. It is always dangerous to view other humans as less human than ourselves.

Maybe you should sit for a minute and get over the shock of it...lol

Yeah, it is very shocking and disturbing.

Something has to be done, but NOT cold blooded MURDER.

Peck should run for President!
