I sew things but my vacuum is not working right and I have no idea how to fix the timing. If you guys have any idea please let me know. It is an older singer. Thanks in advance.

Do you have a vacuum on your sewing machine? Just curious but I have done plenty of sewing but I have not seen a vacuum on any sewing machines. Most of the machines I used though were the larger ones because I was doing automotive upholstery...

Most sewing machines have a timing button that you hold in while you turn the wheel on the side by hand, when it clicks into the notch it is in time.

Just curious but what is it doing? Breaking the needle, jammed, or just the thread in the stitches is off?

I was sewing something for my guinea pigs and I started but the underneath of what I was sewing was really loose and turning into knots.

Your lower tension needs adjusting

Your lower tension might be messed up (I would have to see it to tell if it is too tight or loose) or someone else was messing with the upper tensioners...do you have any kids around the house, they like turning the knobs...lol

Along with what the others have advised, there are a couple more things that you can adjust to fix the lower tension. Depending on how old or new your machine is. Older machines have a tension adjustment screw in the bobbin holder. A 1/8 of a turn clockwise will tighten the tension on the thread. ( new machines I am not sure where it is located check the manual. ) Also, make sure you have the same weight thread in the bobbin and the top spool. A thinner mercerized cotton in the bobbin and a heavy weight button thread in the top spool would cause the bottom thread to blob up. Lastly, check the lint around the bobbin case and under the feed dogs. Sometimes it gets clogged with lint and catches the thread, not allowing it to pass through the shuttle chase easily. Hope this helps.

I usually hand-sew beds for the conure. I'd like to get a sewing machine that I can tolerate, but they usually irritate me.
