I do NOT support any type of military intervention in Libya. When the reports started circulating that Britain was trying to suck us in to some half assed no fly zone I wasn't happy.. It seems that won't happen and we should all be thankful for that.

Cameron backtracks on Libya no-fly zone plan as US distances itself

David Cameron's suggestion of establishing no-fly zone over Libya and arming rebels rejected by US and France

Britain has backtracked from its belligerent military stance over Libya after the Obama administration publicly distanced itself from David Cameron's suggestion that Nato should establish a no-fly zone over the country and that rebel forces should be armed.

As senior British military sources expressed concern that Downing Street appeared to be overlooking the dangers of being sucked into a long and potentially dangerous operation, the prime minister said Britain would go no further than contacting the rebel forces at this stage.

The marked change of tone by the prime minister, who told MPs on Monday that Britain did not "in any way rule out the use of military assets", came as the British-educated son of Muammar Gaddafi mocked Cameron for trying to act as a hero. Saif al-Islam told Sky News: "Everybody wants to be a hero, to be important in history."

In Libya, Gaddafi appeared to settling into a deeper stalemate as attacks by his forces failed to dislodge the opposition from areas of several cities that they hold. A convoy of government aid, which Gaddafi's government said was bound for the eastern city of the rebel-held eastern city of Benghazi, set out from Tripoli . The 20 trucks were carrying food and medicine.

the protesters in Libya (at least the ones I've seen in the media) have made it very clear that they don't want even a hint of intervention from the US or GB. They don't want their movement tainted by the stain of Western puppeteering in any way. Not surprisigly, lawmakers like John McCain and Joe Lieberman have been enthusiastically calling for American-enforces no-fly zones in Libya.

The reality is that any move could turn out to be the wrong one depending upon how things work out.

If Libya continues to murder hundreds of it's own people and we do nothing, we look like careless impotent idiots with our air power sitting off their coast.

If we take out their ability to air strike, they still have plenty of tanks and heavy weapons to use on lightly armed militia.

If we turn the tide in favor of the militia, the government might be replaced by someone who hates us as bad as Iran and just as dangerous.

If we act against Middle Eastern governments who have recently been helpful, the modern states like Saudi Arabia may think we will do the same to them and lose all support in the region.

It could be a no-win situation for America.

Everyone should be very happy that John McCain is not our President.

You make good points.

My feeling is that the people of Libya wanted a change. They knew what was coming from a lunatic like Gaddafi and they must live with the consequences.

We MUST stop meddling and pretending to be the worlds police force.

This has to end..

What are you talking about? The US, Brittian and other countries are preparing to establish a No-Fly Zone. The mad man is using Military Fighters to bomb and shoot innocent civilians. Not to mention the Snipers and mercenaries slaughtering UNARMED civilians. Not to mention his ordering of the death of hundreds of American's, and supporting terrorists and terrorist groups over the years.

We need to send the military in and clean house. We didn't in Eqypt and were going to lose a Major Ally because of it with the radicals expected to take control. We have a real chance with Libya and Iran. We could help make both of those countries free from opression and in turn giving us more allies in the Middle East and the African Union.

Not to mention that the UN, NATO and now the International Criminal Court is looking into the crimes the leadership of Libya is committing and has commetted.

If they issue warrants who do you think will go in to capture the criminals? The same people who did in Bosnia, the US and British. Not to mention if the UN sends peace keeping troops in or NATO decides to intervene, that means America and it's allies are going in.

We need to go in now and get the job done.

The comment was certainly inspired by your posting, but your sentiment is shared by many people, like John McCain and Joe Lieberman. I don't even know who you are. I do think that the opinion is insane.

No.. we really don't need to send the military in.

This notion that if we bomb the hell out of these people they are going to be friends and play nice is not sound logic.

Have you noticed that a Kosovar Albanian shot and killed 2 of our Airmen in Germany?

It is obvious that Clintons foray into Kosovo didn't mean much to this dude.

No more intervention.. Enough is enough

You ought to try your hand there. I would be interested in how that works out for you. There are people there who share your opinions.
