Rambill there is nothing in that report to make you presume anything except what it says.
Have you never heard of benefit of doubt?
Where is the doubt? Just because you were busted for something you say you didnt do?
Whats your beef, or should I ask, what in that story makes you believe its not the truth?

In my business career I traveled to most of the continental U.S. The only states I haven't been in are Alaska and the States North of New York. I delt with many law enforcement agencies when cleaning up truck wrecks many involving the spill of hazardous materials. Not once was I ever treated with anything but curteousy and respect.

As I read through this thread I get the feeling that everybody had to one up the previous person with his bad cop story. There are 10% of the population that are a$$holes, they are in every occupation and every walk of life yet we tend to judge the whole group by the actions of a small minority. It looks like some people have been watching too many Hollywood bad cop movies to me. If anyone had a legitimate case and no lawyer would touch it, the ACLU would be happy to represent you. Being a cop is a thankless job, they ae the scum of the Earth till people need them then they are heros for 10 minutes.

Here is a novel idea for you next time your a$$ is really in a bind, don't call a cop, call a crook.

>> If anyone had a legitimate case and no lawyer would touch it, the ACLU would be happy to represent you.

ACLU is business like any other, their customers are the people who fund the organization. Surely they do a cost-benefit analysis of cases, if your case lacks visibility or likelyhood to gain sympathy or otherwise support the ACLU financial bottom line, I doubt they will take your case.

Garden, it isn't just a certain percentage that are 'asshole', there are a certain percentage that are outright corrupt. They are criminals. Many police officers are honest, hard working, self-sacrificing people who labor to keep our society above barbarism, but among them are criminally minded, self-serving scumbags with a badge, gun, and uniform.

Yes, its wrong to blame 'all cops' for the actions of a few, but it would be equally wrong to pretend that those few aren't there.

I agree Massage, there are a certain percent that are corrupt, but there are a certain percentage of all occupations that are corrupt. I would venture to say that there are a larger percentage of politicians that are corrrupt than police offiers yet we tend to gloss over that if they are in "our" party and only express outrage if they are in the "other " party and we still do not treat all politicians with the same degree of comtempt that most people give to a police officer. I have read in this thread that the Michigan State Police are totally corrupt, the FBI is corrupt, local police are corrupt and I take that to be pure esquestrian fecal material. Cops are doing an extremely difficult job under nearly impossible conditions for a public that hates them and makes heros out of the crooks.

This thread is about a police officer who stopped to help someone and was killed for his efforts, I pray for him and his family. This was an absolutely senseless act, and for people to jump in here and try to justify it because of their own supposedly bad experiences is an abomoniation.

We only get to hear their side of their story and only as much of it as they are willing to tell to support their side of the issue. I think that if everything were known we might see a slightly different picture than the one that was painted.

Gardenforge:

We agree on something! Oh happy day.

you're exactly right. Every profession has it's % of jerks. I'm happy to say, that, so far in my life(I'm 44) I've never had a bad experience with a cop. Whether it's a routine traffic stop up till the time my house was robbed, the police individuals I've dealt with have been nothing but total professionals. To people who's gotted a speeding ticket and griped about it- maybe you WERE speeding.

laugh laugh laugh

Absolutely. And this gets the 'understatement of the day' award.

>> I pray for him and his family. This was an absolutely senseless act,

I completely agree, as I do for the rest of your post.

give a cop a gun, jack boots, body armor, training, an attitude, and no recourse for thier actions, and its a recipe for corruption. sorryaboutit.

i'm not going to rail on you gardenforge and knoxman because i don't believe that all cops are bad but i've met plenty of cops out there who do act like assholes when i've been nothing but cooperative. i'm glad that you haven't met any but the last comment you made knoxman is the exact kind of thinking of why i can't get justice when i am harrassed and stopped unnecessarily because hey it's my word against that of a law enforcement officer so i must be guilty.

people need to realize that just because they haven't had any bad experiences it doesn't mean that people who have had them are lying and trying to place the responsibility on someone else.

It's been my experience that corruption and abuse of authority is the RULE with police - not the exception. They routinely get away with cold blooded murder, and serve the bankers who pay their
wages; not you and me. No WONDER people hate them - the majority
are unaccountable bullies, until they die - then, they're heroes!

i would wager that the majority are hard-working, basically honest men and women.

sadly...even a few corrupt officers can do so much damage that it's hard to see the good ones behind them.

cbx1300 that is only your pet theory. It has no basis in fact. Here is a suggestion for you, police departments in most major cities are desperate to hire new officers. Join the one of them and change the system.

Like I said before if you don't like cops, next time your butt is in a bind, call a crook

I know there are bad cops out there just like there are bad people in every line of work, but I do believe the good outweigh the bad. I agree with Gardenforge and Lulu, that the majority of them are likely good hardworking people with families.

I may be biased, but I was very grateful the night two Sheriff's deputies came into my house and disarmed my ex of the 10-gauge shotgun he told them he was going to kill me with.

I worked in the prison system for 17 years and met many police officers and feel that many of them were good honest people. I heard some of their stories and know both sides of some of the stories. They deal with things every day we can't even imagine.

I have driven down the highway and seen State Patrol officers changing tires on cars for women and elderly, that is not all bad.

And, you will never convince me that the majority of the police officers who died trying to save people in the 9/11 disaster were corrupt and bad.

Yes, there is a percentage that is bad, what percentage, I don't know, but don't think we can label them all bad. I have personally had them stop to help me when I have been broken down along the road. I hate to see anybody label and group as bad because of a few.

ive personally had them falsify police reports, cooerce a witness and lie in court about me. ive also had a lot of them as customers at my gun shop and range. i know the species well and i dont trust any of them.

This was a memorial post done for an officer killed in the line of duty, Master Trooper David Rich. This officer, this husband, this son has lost his life doing his basic 9 to 5 shift.

I cannot believe that anyone's life lost would gain so many replies of hate, anger and hostility let alone the life of a police officer. Pictured with me is my son who has chosen law enforcement as his career. I could tell you about a highway fatality that he witnessed with me when he was 12 years old and the police officers pulling the other victims out of the wreckage while one of them laid smashed underneath the auto. I could tell you of the incidents in his life where he has seen a man beat up by other men and nobody came to the aid to help him. I could tell you how much in his heart that he still believes in justice and the ability to serve and protect this fellow American and this post could very easily have been his life lost in the line of his duty and you want to bring forth all this hate and personal issues, one little trivial incident of bad that happened with a police officer. How many times have you utilized the police department for your well-being, your family's protection, stopped you and gave you a warning ticket instead of ticket.

I have lived 29 years of my life traveling every state in the United States, I have been stopped by all color, all sizes, and all different departments of law enforcement, male and female officers. I have had coffee and talked with them at truck stops. I have assisted them in a lot of different road situations. It is very cut and dry when it comes to any department of branch of our United States Government from our President's Office down, there is always going to be good and bad in people. Nobody can justify one person's bad or good and make that into all of the rest. This trooper, David Rich, died a hero to his family, to his friends, and to me and my son. This pity party of whiners should never have come in to this post. I am offended and I am sure my son would be offended if he saw an officer's death publicized just to bring about the responses that my Justsayhi friends have posted here. I can only hope and pray that Master Trooper David Rich's family will never see any part of this post. The integrity of who we are and what death means to us has been slandered here, not just in vain, but in a memorial of a death.
