I need to get some sleep but here goes-

I was born and raised in a small, Quaker College town outside of Philadelphia Pa

I was in school during Hendrix, the Beatles, Pink Floyd and Woodstock, Tie- dye and bell bottom jeans

My ninth grade class spearheaded the fight to allow girls to wear slacks to school - we told the school admin that we were wearing them and did - Swarthmore College is , I believe , the only college that still has an SDS

JFK, MLK, Bobby, Angela DAvis, Bobby Seale, MalcomX, Black Panthers SCLC, Bob Dylan, Vietnam, that plus the SDS and ya, I'm assertive - all of these things framed by inner consciousness as a member of a generation like non B4 and none since

cold war nuclear fusion - the first generation of Americans to huddle in third grade hallways knowing that we had the capacity not to kill each other but to annhilate the planet, life as we knew it

Moon walk, Cape Canaveral becomes Cape Kennedy, and I watched stunned and numb while Sally Ride disappeared in a flaming instant - a half hour later I found myself still standing frozen - crying - realized I had cried

I remember my dad running from the cops in Chester, Pa on a civil rights march and my mom knelt under the ironing board where she was working to pray as he and Father Hewitt marched. My dad was quick and came home. Father was caught and fasted 40 days & 40 nights in the city jail. and down the road, in the small blue collar town - one town over - white neighbors screamed "kill the Baker baby" and threw things at the black family who had recently moved in

We marched for peace, we marched to stop a highway, the Blue Route, were the first generation of American kids to see live and in color on TV, the wholesale slaughter that war is

I played hockey and ran AAU track. I was a Girl Scout, and I still think that the AAU and the GS are 2 of the greatest organizations ever

I babysat and kissed boys- ran the streets (which were alarmingly safe) and snuck out at night to see the "forbidden boyfriend"

all of this has made me who I am today - tired - laugh good nite y'all

I have learned the power of forgiveness, over and over

met my first husband at sixteen, married at nineteen,

sexually assaulted by a stranger at nineteen(while my husband was overseas in the navy) , they caught him, we prosecuted him, he went to jail

sexually assaulted again at twenty by a stranger while I was out of town, never reported it, dealt with it by myself , got over it(so to speak) and moved on

physically assaulted by (drunk)husband at twenty one, he was arrested, he was remorseful, i forgave him, he went to counseling, and never laid a hand on me again

cheated on by husband at twenty one, forgave him, he wasnt remorseful, it happened again, I left after having our son

forgave him, he has been a wonderful dad to our son, but never recovered the relationship

met someone on line when I was thirty three, went to the UK to meet him the next year, married the next, miserable the next five years due to refusal of government to allow him a visa and his declining mental and emotional stability as well as declining support for our daughter, and finally decided to end it last year

I have forgiven him, we talk(mostly about our daughter) and she has never heard a harsh word about him from me nor will she ever

I have learned that forgiveness helps me(not them) so I can move forward, however, i have also learned to have second thoughts about my own judgement(not so good)

Hey there Harmony,
smile2 I dont trust my judgement as far as i can throw it, but keep believing that everyone can be trusted. hmmm not sure how that works, but somehow it does.

i was born in a poor family..we are six siblings and im the youngest..
when i was 9 i sell vegies in our village to help my parents.at my age i never experienced on how to be a kid like everyone..i dont have toys i dont play with other kids because at morning i am in school(around 5am i am selling vegies and 7am starts my class) and afternoon after my class i am a baby sitter.at weekends i am in the market to help my uncle in their store(helper)..
in my mind i promised myself "i don't want my future children experience what i am experiencing right now"
i worked and study hard...until i finish my degree
i've learned that if u want to succeed you have to work hard for it even though there are a lot of obstacles in your way just believe in the power of your dreams.... :)

right now i am working in a good company and i have 2 mini stores :)
