Tell me the age that you made the conscience choice to become what you are??? When the thought went through your mind something like........hmmmmmmm girls are nice, but I think I'm going to make a life long decision and go after the boys.

I never went through that thought process, and I don't know anyone, gay or straight, male or female, that did.

I consciously LIKED my first boy at sixteen, from that experience, I decided I liked boys

I was aware of finding girls attractive all my life, but society always painted that as acceptible (recognizing beauty) so I never thought much of it

I was first COME ON TO by a female in my twenties, it felt much nicer than I would have thought, I realized then I could be 'attracted' to anyone with any physical attribute if I didnt let physical attributes determine my attraction

kind of like the 'I kissed a girl and I liked it' syndrome, because nothing in my mind kicked off a wall saying 'thats a girl, I dont like girls,,,,'

I saw the show 'what about miriam' in my thirties, which confirmed for me that attraction is not about 'gender' at all but about perceptions , and how they relate to those experiences that made us feel good or comfortable,,,

I realized in my thirties, I am probably what would be called 'biologically' bisexual(although I disagree that I felt any of this in the nursery after I was born...lol)

but I decided to continue living a heterosexual lifestyle

One of my daughters is gay, the other is straight.....they were both brought up the same way, taught the same way, treated the same way, etc. One has always looked at girls (actresses, singers) and made comments on them since the time she was old enough to tell the difference between male and female. The other has been so boy-crazy that at the age of six, I was wondering where I could get her fitted for a chastity belt.

Homosexuality and lesbianism is not a choice, do you honestly think someone would CHOOSE to be the target of such discrimination and hatred???? Discrimination that has caused so many young people to take their own lives?????

And as for "once you state it, you claim it"....I worked with a man who was gay but got married and had a family because he wanted so desperately wanted to be "normal" but he was so unhappy, the only time he would smile and laugh was when he was at work because we didn't care one way or the other. He was just "Gary-poppa" and we all loved him.

thats all good, those are all their choice,,,nothing wrong with choosing, a shame society has convinced us we have none though,,,

I don't understand why you say it is a "choice" when being with someone of the opposite sex doesn't turn them on, doesn't interest them at all. Should they live a lie and live as a heterosexual and become depressed or possibly suicidal?

Society hasn't convinced them they don't have a choice, they have a "choice"....to be true to themselves or to lie about who they are so some people can be more "comfortable" and not accept their differences.

Bisexuals can make a choice about which gender they like more than the other, homosexuals and lesbians can't, it is just who they are.

everything in life is a choice on some level, the options arent always the most desirable, but the choice is always there

opposite sex only applies to the difference in internal organs, everything else is an EXTERNAL AND PHYSICAL attribute, if one has decided strictly on physical attributes who can and cannot satisfy or excite them, that is a choice , a decision, and a very common one

but its still a conccious perception they have, 'this person has a penis, I am turned off,, end of story' or 'this person has a vagina, I am turned off, end of story'

in reality, I am not turned on by scars, in fact they turn me off

and its not LIKELY I would find myself ATTRACTED (by the chemical and physiological definition) to someone who was scarred, however, it is quite possible that I could develop a relationship with someone scarred, who made me feel safe and secure, and FIND that I had BECOME ATTRACTED to them

so I dont say, I have no choice to not be attracted to scarred people, I can only say, I dont feel an attraction to scars

I dont feel an attraction to VAGINAS, but there are alot of other things that are non gender specific that I AM Attracted to that could lead me to be attracted to individuals who I see as more than a vagina or a penis

Bisexuals can make a choice about which gender they like more than the other, homosexuals and lesbians can't, it is just who they are.

possibly who a minority of them are, a larger portion who obviously like the opposite sex enough to have children with them, are truly CHOOSING a 'preference'

But seriously, no one is really sure why people are born the way they are but they do think it has something to do with chemicals produced in the womb.

they arent sure why some people turn into serial killers or why some people turn into rapists, there are many who feel these things are HARDWIRED tendencies.

I am of the school of thought that nothing is HARDWIRED, ie, unchangable, in the human mind. I do believe somethings are preprogrammed as TENDENCIES,,ie things we are MORE likely than others to feel or have talents in, but it is nothing on its own without SOCIAL influence to either make it secure and concrete or distinguish it.

I would say that in an extreme minority of cases where a boy is raised by his mother and is taught to act in a feminine matter and is surrounded by women that male may have tendencies that would lead him toward homosexual actions and those actions can be reversed. Somebody who is born and doesn't feel comfortable at 2 being a boy is something that cannot be reversed.

If they are choosing a PREFERENCE between the sexes they are BISEXUALS....not LESBIANS OR HOMOSEXUALS.

thats another debate about labels, both self imposed and socially imposed

but once we LABEL ourself, we pretty much live up to our expectation

particularly when we are pushed and encouraged to make such decisions at such early stages in our life

trust, if at sixteen someone has learned they are a 'loser', the odds they will be anything but are rare

same with any of the other labels we put on ourself when we are in our youth...

why is that ridiculous?

are you attracted to angelina jolie? is it because she is FEMALE? or do you assume she is female and so nothing obstructs your attraction?

if she were anatomically male, would she not still be incredibaly attractive nonetheless? would that make you gay(anatomical male attracted to an anatomical male)? straight(anatomical male attracted to what is PERCEIVED to be female)? of bisexual(anatomical male attracted to FEMININE attributes in an anatomical male?)
