Coming back into the states from Hawaii into San Francisco airport. A woman with a baby toss the baby's wet diaper into my face. Welcomed back baby killer, was the words from her mouth. It was a different time. Today people thank service personnel for their service. Uh Huh!!! I thought I was the only one that experienced something like that. I was back east when it happened. Different climate today for sure. I had the same experience we were told coming back to Frisco NOT to wear our uniforms in public, how sad!! I will NEVER get over the way I and others were treated!! Was on a charter flight to Anchorage Alaska on the way to Iwakuni, Japan. People told us to stay out of the public eye because we were in uniform. Will never forget flying into Aurora Borealis(Northern Lights)leaving Alaska. Most beautiful and powerful memory for me!!!! I was based in Elmendorf Air Force base in Anchorage. I watched the Northern lights for six months. I had some guy call me a baby killer too and I said yep I am; then I just laughed in his face. He stomped away. |

This is why digital cameras were invented and I wish I had one then along with Photoshop. My goodness what I could have done with those pictures!!! _____________________________________________________________________ I have so many of them. The lights gave me a very soothing frame of mind while I was there. |

I could care less if I was called a baby killer anyways. I also told one guy that I didn't like kids anyways. It sure takes the wind out of their sails when you don't get mad or upset. |

I do not think it was the words as much as the wet diaper. Even in the 70's It was illegal to flush someone down the toilet.

It was the gestures that rankled most people. A lot of those poor guys had been through a lot in Viet Nam and then came back ill-prepared for what the had to face int the world. Just an ugly time and even uglier sene. |

I had a long discussion with a friend that is back from over seas. He has lost his left leg. He is having a unbelievable time of getting help. It has been a fight just to get rehab. Not to mention that a new, artificial leg would help. His lady friend has lost her right hand. She got funding from a private party for her artificial hand.
Just not right for people who serve or country not to get the services that they need to live fuller life. |

Just not right for people who serve or country not to get the services that they need to live fuller life. Tell him about the Wounded Warrior Project. They specialize in helping wounded service people. He needs to put himself out there to get the help he needs. I hope this helps in his time of need. |

That is how she was able to get help. For his needs, he is on a waiting list. Waiting for what? The W.W.P. is putting off his needs.

A waiting list. That is nuts and it is not right. But, with the economy the way it is, I guess this is a way of life. May be there should be truth in advertising and say there is a waiting list !!!!! |

Indeed sir. Our service men and women are coming wounded. It could be that the money is being put out more than coming in. Write your congress, and the house. Let them know that this is not right indeed. The gentleman across the hall from me is going back for his 5 time. He leaves tomorrow, he and Carl talked last night. It is not good for someone heading out, to know that if he gets hurt he might not get the help he needs. So on a lighter note anyone have a funny memory of service life? Or stories Father or brothers have told? |

Indeed sir that is a grand out look, if we can achieve it.
