Okay guys, got a question for ya. Why do ya'll seem to think its okay to say "my" dogs, when we are talking about my dogs?

I'd safely say about half the guys I talk with early on will shift from "your" dogs, as in how were your dogs, are your dogs allowed on the couch? Etc. To how are "my" dogs doing today?

WTF is up with that? Do you think its cute or something?

If she hasn't met them, then yes, it would be pretty weird.

Equus, have you asked these guys why they're doing that?

Weird probably but she doesn't have to respond or get to know them any further.....nor does she have to let the weirdos bother her......that is all a choice

It's normally just the dogs, but I've had it done with the other animals, the horses and pigs seem to amuse men.

Seakolony, it may seem like small stuff, but it's really not. Would you be happy if a guy started calling your kid(s) his, especially if you weren't in a serious relationship? Especially if you haven't met the guy?

LOL at Fett, I agree sometimes. Especially when my newest dog is getting beat up by the little 10lb dogs and he's screaming bloody murder. I do give him much credit for not going back at them, though.

Newark, can you really grow attached to someone over email?

Singme, a couple of guys said they thought it would help work their way in to my life a bit faster. The others just seemed to think it was cool. They apparently told their friends about "their" animals too.

Needless to say, I very politely told them off. My animals are mine. They aren't paying feed bills, medical bills, or training them or taking care of them. Until I get married, if I get married, the animals remain mine. Even dating, they are mine, there is no sharing, or becoming theirs.

My fault, not clear. It's been both by email, and guys I've met in person. Really bizarre.

I can kinda understand a little in person. I like dogs and if I make friends with one when I see them I let them lick my face and I always say How is my big ole sweety...........smokin

Oh that I'm fine with. I take the dogs out in public and really don't mind that. It's good for the dogs do get some smoochy TLC from random strangers, and the more the merrier. And it's good for people who are afraid of those "evil pits" even if they aren't pits to help them understand not all dogs will tear off their face. Makes for better dogs all around. I've been using food treats with strangers to help get Freckles over his nervousness.

But there's an entirely different feel to it via email or in a dating type situation. It comes across as way more presumptive and possessive.

You're right. Some have a different way of going about things. Does that mean we have to be ok with those different ways?

I guess I don't take things so serious so it don't bother me, but if It bothers others. To each is own I guess because I enjoy life and welcome people. Other words, I don't swet the small stuff...

..well since they claim they are their dogs..send them the vet bill and ask them where's the money for the food to feed them..that will probably put an end to it...smokin

This thread is a lot more fun if you pretend people are using 'my dogs' as slang for 'my friends'.
