that's not a gov program, it doesn't work unless you can actually physically get your hands on the phone & download the software onto it, it is NOT invisible on the phone, the phone owner will know its there by an icon on their screen. & that particular program well you'd be lucky to get it to work or get your money back..it's called a SCAM. Don't believe everything you read & only a fraction of what you see & hear.

There is a way of tracking a phone without anyone knowing about it but the tracker...

The average joe has no access to this.

Why do you think governments around the world want access to phone encryption programs?

Any phone can be tracked through their towers, even 2 is enough to pinpoint 2 possible lotions, one of which is true.

"never do or say anything online or with a cell phone that you wouldn't scream out your window..." - Me scared

I don't know anything about this particular software, but it is absolutely possible to write software which fulfills the following claims, on a modern smartphone OS.

Cell-Locate Software allows you to silently monitor mobile phones online:
See all incoming and outgoing text messages
See all incoming and outgoing calls made from the phone
Track the GPS location of any phone in real time**
Cell-Locate Software will let you find out if your children or employees are using any of the phones you own inappropriately

If the user of a phone that you own is not technically savvy, it should also be easy to do this without them knowing about it - especially if the functionality is buried in another program.

that's not a gov program,

I think that was his point. This particular power of remote surveillance - as done by the government in "1984" - is now available to all of us. Hence Miles' phrasing.

All true.

, it is NOT invisible on the phone, the phone owner will know its there by an icon on their screen.

That surprising. It must be intentional - to avoid lawsuits, maybe? I'm sure there is software in existence (even if written by a jealous/controlling software developer, and used only by her) which performs theses functions without being so obvious about it.

& that particular program well you'd be lucky to get it to work or get your money back..it's called a SCAM.

I'm not surprised. Its easier to convince people to pay for useless crap that it is to write quality software.

Unless the battery is out (disconnected), the new smart phones can be turned on remotely. Any decent hacker could then send new software disguised as a "system update", also which can be done without user intervention.

There are definitely ways to install malicious software on people's phones, without them knowing it, without having it in your hands. The method you describe requires compromising a particular trusted source or masquerading as a particular trusted source, I'm sure there are other ways as well.

The 'it' that I assumed 'Bun' was speaking of was that that particular program, given in the OP. I'm pretty sure that that particular program requires you to have access to the handset.

Sure, but I have been addressing the OP's question of:

"Just think what our Gov. does?"

All cellphone transmissions are recorded .... its fcc regulation to record everything broadcast through the air. Only land lines are secure. hard wired phones need warrants to be recorded legally.
Anything broadcast through the air is free to be recorded by anyone with capable equipment.

and what created the "big brother"?

an eye in the sky, that may not like you, naturally, if you do not agree with presiding policies, and hath the power to silence any dissenting voices.

what created and allowed such massive unequal power to be leveled upon an entire species?

self opportunists blind to other self opportuntists.

for is not the goal most propogated within society to make it up the next rung of the ladder of respect.

for a human is blind to what is like itself in any manner.

so it seems the entire populous be guilty, not just some, for only a self seeking opportunistic voting people would vote in opportunistic leaders, not seeing the gravity of what can be created if ultimate power be given the same things the regular joe wants.

since the custom has come to be to demand respect by a total populous of adults, just wait until ultiimate power comes to demand respect of the people.
