my personal rule is if Ihave had one can/bottle/glass of beer I will not drive for more than a block or two for one hour after drinking it. If is is anything heavier I go minimum one hour per last drink (and that imcludes shots). So if I had three drinks i will not drive for three hours after that last drink.

Now, as to how MUCH I can drink there is a reason I am seriously cutting back. As far as liquer goes I can drink a pint of southern comfort in one night if it is mixed, two nights if I drink it straight) about 6 to 8 hours either way.
Rum even faster, same with vodka. I do NOT touch hard alchohol at all anymore.

Beer, which I am cutting back on as well, I have found myself going through ten and fifteen cans per night minimum. Needless to say there is a reason I follow the above rules so closely.
