Topic: Help, please. | |

Okay, so I don't have a lot of information to give. The bottom line is ...
my computer will not turn on. Period. Who has any advice? |

well you're not a blonde, so it's plugged in i assume, lol
if it's plugged into a surge protector, check the light and flip the switch a couple times, might work, if not, when you are sure you have power to your computer, hold in the power button for a few seconds then release. if that doesn't work, unplug the computer for about 10 minutes, plug it back in and it may work then. no other advice, not that much of a computer geek, but sure someone will be able to advise you further. |

yes, it's plugged in, lol.
I checked the power strip already. I've pressed the reset button a few times. Nothing. I'll try unplugging the computer and see what happens. I just don't understand. It was fine that afternoon. Then in the evening it just would not turn back on. The monitor turns on, but the tower will not. Thanks for your input. |

Sounds like power supply.
One thing you can do doesnt work often but might make sure to unplug the back cord from the computer give it about 10 minutes and plug it back in see if it powers up. But that sounds like a power supply or bad ram but I would check power supply first. |

Thanks, guys.
I guess some day I'll find someone to actually look at it as I am incompetent in that area. I can handle the simple suggestions though. |

Okay, so I don't have a lot of information to give. The bottom line is ... my computer will not turn on. Period. Who has any advice? make sure the power cord is attached to the back of the tower and monitor cord too if that dont work your power source is blown Or if its like a laptop with a battery? - whatever your source of power is - sometihng is wrong there also make sure the light switch in the room is in the "on" position if u r plugged into a wall socket |

Okay, so I don't have a lot of information to give. The bottom line is ... my computer will not turn on. Period. Who has any advice? Quite a bit of possibilities this could be. I would definitly start with the power supply. But also could be your mother board and or even just simple as your power button. Could be something such as your sound card or video card went out. It varies from computers to computers. But again lol, would definitly start with the power supply and hope you all the best :D p.s. not sure if you wanted to hear this, but power supplies very rarely go out less it's had surges from storms causing power outages, surges, and such. But hopefully it's that simple :D |

I don't know .. I haven't had time to move everything out and crawl under the desk Not that I'm looking forward to doing any of this. But apparently I need a computer. |

Please don't jinx me ha ha Everyone seems to think I should start with the power supply inside the tower. And if the new one I get doesn't fix the problem then ... well I don't know what then. I might be without a computer for a long time. |

I might be without a computer for a long time. What you might also try is taking the cover off, and taking each piece out one at a time and putting it back in making sure you get it in nice and snug eg., the sound card, video card. The devices that can be taken out with one screw, screwed into the box of the machine. |

I am more of a web and control panel junkie. what you just suggested is beyond my capabilities simply because ... you have lost me. |

Go down the list of cheaper parts: cables/power strip, power supply, motherboard.
Unfortunately most computers don't tell us what is wrong with them, but most of the time it is a relatively cheap fix if you just narrow down the problem...even a decent motherboard will only run you about $100 or so. |
