Reading a blurb or a blog or taking information (especially information that is scientific in nature)out of its relavent context is not a good way to develop opinions about the subject and may, in fact, cause harm to others.

In the case of the OP, the information presented was taken out of context and is presented with opinions which reflect a bias against the field of psychology.

This is a predominant reason why people tend to avoid seeking qualified treatment from experts in the field. Not only can experts treat illnesses of mind but in doing so, individuals, their families and society can benefit greatly.

Another clarification to the OP that needs to be made is that Children NEED to develop a certain respect to authority and to identify who authority figures are.

Authority within the family must be established, for it is through the family that a child finds safety and comfort, and learns how to control and deal with their emotions (temper tantrums, hurt feelings, insecurity, fear, etc.).

Authority also guides the child to maneuver effectively with accordance to societal norms. Teachers must be considered an authority figure so that children will learn to behave properly in a classroom setting so the learning environment is beneficial to all students.

About pharmaceuticals:
Medical doctors should understand the limitations of their particular field, when they do such pediatricians and family doctors will refer an otherwise, physically, healthy child to a psychologist for proper diagnosis and treatment options.

Unfortunately, many doctors still attempt to remedy a child’s symptoms with a pharmaceutical prescription. The reasons are varied; sometimes doctor succumbs to a parent’s plea, or makes determinations based of the amount of resources available and affordable to the caretaker’s situation. None of these reasons are supported by most of the medical field, but it happens.

In the hands of a competent psychologist, diagnosis and treatment options are determined based on individual cases. Pharmaceuticals are not always included, or may be prescribed later or may only be used in the beginning to enhance and increase the success of further treatment options.
