It appears that the Catholics are not alone in charges of child sexual abuse and misconduct. Some in high places in the Baptist community, former Southern Baptist Convention members resist this issue as much as the Catholic ranks have.

Parents need to be mindful that predators and criminals can be anywhere. Just because a man adds "pastor" to his name makes him no more trustworthy than any other person of any religion...or non-religion.

"This "little light" shines for the many clergy abuse victims whose voices have been silenced. Silenced by shame. Silenced by the false instruction of religious leaders. Silenced by church shunning and bullying. Silenced by church contracts for secrecy. Silenced by suicide. The mission of StopBaptistPredators.org is to break the silence of Baptist clergy sex abuse."

Report Titles:

LifeWay background-check service finds hundreds of felonies

British Baptist minister is charged with aggravated sexual battery of two boys in the U.S. He was prior executive assistant to the president of the Baptist World Alliance.

Georgia: Registered sex offender becomes Baptist pastor

Vocal opponent of pastor's appointment was tossed out of the church.

Georgia: Lawsuits accuse Baptist megachurch pastor Eddie Long of sexual coercion with "spiritual sons"

Attorney says "church officials knew about the abuse and failed to stop it."

Collusions:

"Paige Patterson (former SBC president and current president of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary): Denounced the clergy abuse survivors' support group as "evil-doers.” Patterson himself turned a deaf ear to numerous reports of sexual abuse involving pastor Darrell Gilyard, including reports brought by students who were under Patterson’s charge while he was president of a Baptist college. Gilyard went on to accumulate many more abuse allegations, and he was ultimately convicted on child sex charges in Florida."

"Ed Pettibone (retired Baptist pastor): Over the course of several years, repeatedly posted mean-spirited, victim-blaming comments on a Baptist blog whenever the clergy sex abuse topic was raised. For example, in discussion of a case involving a convicted 49-year-old pastor’s sexual abuse of a 15-year-old church girl, Pettibone suggested that the parents needed lessons in retaking control of their teen and then used the “two to tango” line."

"Mike Roy (former pastor of First Baptist Church of Greenwood, MO): Allowed a staff minister to continue working with kids for four months after police notified him that the minister was under investigation for child sex abuse. Authorities believe the minister was able to abuse at least 2 more boys during that time. In what was later described as “Missouri’s biggest clergy sex abuse” case, the minister whom Roy shielded was ultimately convicted of molesting numerous Missouri church boys, and he was also convicted of molesting children at 3 Kentucky Baptist churches where he worked previously."

I think it's funny people associate actions with religion. Like take catholics for example. They aren't all bad and it's not in the catholic belief to have sexual relations with minors. Same goes for baptists. Who cares what title someone holds? Why is it such a surprise hearing that say a baptist raped or molested a minor or other? Weather it's tied with some form of religion or not, it happens all the time. But nevertheless it is NOT in the belief itself. People's actions don't always and for the most part does don't resemble the belief they proclaim to have. Again, yes there's gonna be rapists in the baptists, rapists in the catholics, heck probably even rapists in the other beliefs. DOES NOT RESEMBLE the actions that God has told us to do. But on the contrary God tells us not to do these things. God has also told us of false prophets. These would be examples of false prophets. For someone preaching the word is to also live by the word.

Nothing's funny about child abuse. The Southern Baptist Convention leaders are now or have in the past covered up abuses. They have also attacked people who have come forward to charge they have been molested. How low can they go...real funny stuff huh?

If religious people don't want their religion tarnishied by bad news about their religious leader's hidings of pastor abuses then they should be calling for the removal and prosecution of those involved.

No the action isn't funny. But what you are trying to do is. Again the bible does not teach us to do what these people have done and are doing. This is their own choice, and they will have to face it in judgement because we have been instructed to do quite the opposite of what these people are doing.

And yes i agree with the removal of those involved. But nevertheless it does NOT reflect the faith as a whole.

Ya, I am sure all the Baptist and other religious people are working real hard to expose and remove them...yeah right. Same thing as with the Catholic church...deny and ignore. If I supported and/or gave money to an institution that had such crimes going on against children I'd at least apologize for not knowing then demand justice...and of course QUIT their org...why the SBC is allowed to keep taking money is criminal in itself. Some of that money will go to lawyers to defend child abusers/molesters? Really? Laugh it up!

Again, I don't see outrages and resolves happening. They just stay in the pretend world I guess..."we can do no wrong"...how childish.

"Emily Prevost (associate director of the Center for Effective Leadership of the Baptist General Convention of Texas): A clergy abuse survivor wrote to the Baptist General Convention of Texas saying that she was raped by a Texas Baptist minister when she was an adolescent girl, that the man was still a minister, and that she was hurt by the fact that no one helped her the first time she contacted the BGCT. Emily Prevost wrote back saying that the BGCT didn’t receive clergy abuse reports from victims and telling her that she should take her information to the church. (email correspondence of June 7, 2007) It’s the typical Baptist leader response, and it’s flat-out cruel. It’s like telling bloody sheep to go to the den of the wolf who savaged them."

any organized group, covereth the "wrong doing" of it's member's IN GOOD STANDING if possible, so as to not shine negative light upon it's own organization.

such be true from the largest groups as governments, down to the smallest called the family.

perhaps why it was once as written, to be true hath the potential to pit mother again daughter, father against son, sibling against sibling, and of course, any variation of thereof.

all groups are but people, and nothing can be true, lest itself hath not one iota of guilt itself, and nothing to lose from any other person it knows.

indeed, it appears it be more difficult to be true, then what might first meet the brain.

Again that's THAT churches ordeal. They will have to settle it themselves in the correct manner, finding a new pastor. They will be judged for their crimes by Jesus christ when the time comes. And the reason the law doesn't do anything about it, cause countless times people will claim that so and so did this or that to them, and it ends up being false. Has happened so many times the law has stopped investigating it for most times out of none it's a waste of time and false. And this does not, again, resemble anything along the christian faith and or how we are to behave. The bible tells us specifically sexual relations are for married couples, a man and woman. And that alone shows that what some catholics and baptists do, is not influenced by the faith in its own.

as if justice, or protecting the downtrodden, and abused, should wait until "jesus" return's....

so, we shall wait on a dead man, to come to rescue our loved one's from peril?

such caring for other's...

wow, such divine love flowing like river's from the mouth of the self professed believer's in love...

perhaps all that believe justice should be delayed until the arrival of "jesus", and that even law enforcement be condoned for not helping victims, should recieve no relief when they are as molested, and beaten, or tortured by another human being?

will you Mr cowboy condone any abuse to simply defend your own religion, your own kind?

damning proof of the first post.

Nice religous denial there...the SBC is a few dozen MILLION strong.

Does the bible tell Baptist to ignore their own orgaization's abuses on children? Really? And no, sorry...they (the abusers that are being defend here by a Christian) will not get away with this and face the imaginary "higher power"...no no no, they need to be imprisoned for the reast of their lives.

How dare anyone defend child molesters and the people who allow this to happen, the people who STILL support the churches that abuse... and most bizzarly: calling the victims "liars" and dismissing the charges without looking into it...I cannot believe what I am reading here today.

Police believe there were more victims.

Oh but i'm not defending the priests/pastors that did this. All i'm saying is it can not be let to reflect the belief. It is these people's decisions, these people's actions, these people choice. Does not reflect the Christian belief. Again God does in no way instruct us to do as such, has instructed us quite the opposite. Marriage is needed for a sexual relation and a marriage is only sanctified or permitted with a man and woman. So again i'm not defending these people saying nothing should happen to them, they should be locked in prison. All i'm saying is this is NOT a reflection of the Christian faith.

And no one is hiding behide a saviour. You're stating basically they will do this immoral actions then ask for forgiveness and repeat. Doesn't work that way. With asking for forgiveness comes repentance....... repentance is to stop doing this thing of which is in mention. So in this case with asking forgiveness of molesting a child, they would have to stop. Otherwise them asking for forgiveness was in vein and wasn't truly desired. And if it's not truly desired and in vein it's hollow words to the lord. Jesus only forgives those who truly seek it.

what makes that so?

or is it that you wish such were not so?

why most not me, so have mercy on the "believer"?

A Christian can not be accused of any wrongdoing. Romans 8:33

Philippians 2:10-11 (King James Version)

10That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;

11And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
-------------------------------------------------
Yes with the coming of Jesus everyone will have only the option to worship our Christ. For you can deny that Jesus is not real all you want, but how could you with him standing at your door? What grounds would you have to continue to deny him?
==============================================

Romans 8:33-39 (King James Version)

33Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth.

34Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.
-------------------------------------------------
This verse is merely saying who are you to say that what we do is immoral or wrong. Who are you to treat someone badly for a mistake they made? Again with receiving this forgiveness comes repentance of which he is asking forgiveness of. Does not mean I or someone can go around doing all kinds of immoral actions/sins and nothing happen to them.

Again yes the person that did the crime should be put in prison, for it is also against man's law. But nevertheless it does NOT reflect the faith, Jesus has in no way told us to live like that. This is those people failing God. And they will have to face that in judgement day. But nevertheless we are all not like that. Nor will we ever for God forbids that form of action.
