What's it like in Oregon, more specifically towards the coast. Near Portland. How bad does it get?

We get snow, but nothing like the Mid West or back East. Last winter we hardly had any snow- seems like only one or two days where we had snow on the ground.

Thanks, Torgo. I'm trying to get a feel for whether or not my Mustang is going to be drive-able moving out there for the winter or if I'll have to sell it before I go.

i moved here from vegas in 93,,,i lived in reno for a couple yrs also,,,i was somewhat prepared for the snow,,,but the freezing rain is whats tricky,,,its raing but it sticks and freezes immediately,,the roads,,the bridges all become treacherous,,I-5 will close down,,the city is slow to respond to this and i just stay home and watch the news,,the freeway cams show all the accidents and cars stuck,,its sad for the stranded motorists but sort of funny that they ventured out for a job they could have skipped for the day,,lol,,,have chains,,,get a full set,,even some of the more expensive wheel enclosed types are the best,,but run about 200.00 a wheel,,,but well worth it,,,also have some spray on de-icer to get your door open and key into the lock,,lol,,always be prepared,,its oregon,,lol,,,besides the freak storm,,the beauty of oregon is well worth the move,,if you love to fish and hunt,,its a paradise here,,,take it easy,,,don,,,,

Portland has a good transit system, buses and the train. Not driving can be a good option. I lived several years without a car, though, now I do like my independence.

Doesn't snow a lot "usually" but when it does as long as you have a set of chains or if given the chance just not drive you'll be fine.
If you are thinking closer to the coast as opposed to Portland metro, the Coast Range mountains does get snow with the higher elevations but actual snow at the beach is rare. |
