the test for citizenship says we are a democracy
http://usgovinfo.about.com/blinstst.htm#78 I think we operate more like a democratic republic though from http://depts.alverno.edu/dgp/GEC/Types%20of%20Government.html 1. Democracy The word "democracy" literally means "rule by the people." In a democracy, the people govern. 2. Republic A literal democracy is impossible in a political system containing more than a few people. All "democracies" are really republics. In a republic, the people elect representatives to make and enforce laws. |

The term is Representative Republic.
It is not a true Democracy where all citizens were expected to participate like in Greece. In classic Greece all elders served in their house. They were voted into their positions but there were lower levels of government non elected members would serve in otherwise. Here in America we have an Electoral College which supposedly acts as the electoral body at the behest of American voters. The Electoral College is a government intercessionary body. No America is Pseudo-Democratic. There is a huge difference and a huge amount of misunderstanding what the difference is. |

Representative Republic.
No we are not socialist and we will never be. Too many enjoy our Capitalistic nature to ever be socialist or communist for that matter. |

Representative Republic. No we are not socialist and we will never be. Too many enjoy our Capitalistic nature to ever be socialist or communist for that matter. Try telling that to Obama or Bernie Sanders. |

Don't have to, they aren't socialist nor can they make this country socialist.

A little more on Bernie Sanders.................
Sanders is a self-described democratic socialist, and has praised European social democracy, but because he does not belong to a formal political party, he appears as an independent on the ballot. He is the first person elected to the U.S. Senate to identify as a socialist. Sanders caucuses with the Democratic Party and is counted as a Democrat for the purposes of committee assignments. He was also the only independent member of the House during much of his service there. He is one of two independent Senators in the 111th Congress, along with Joe Lieberman. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bernie_Sanders |

Is America a Republic or Democracy? Actually, America (USA) is a multidimensional government of socialism and democracy.......which would me onsidered a move from capitalism towards socialism and if you followed a the examples of Marxism eventually into eventually into communism.........and if we give up just one freedom or give in an inch.......we will be under total governmental control eventually.......and how does conformism and dictatorships help anyone or anything, every personality lends a unique view and to stiffle that takes away the ability to understand and have unique even vital input........ |
