Our celebrated "Nor' Wester" is doing what it does best, at around 60Kph ( around 40MPH). This is usefull for the transfer of paddocks from one farm to another. You can find out all about the Nor'Wester, if you google it. It is a breeze that is known by name, throughout the world. Some people are adversely affected>>> Sounds to me like he is describing a good ol' West Texas sand storm! uh huh, ever go through one of those? were they as bad there as they were in the Panhandle or South Plains? I can remember the highways closing because of them back in the 70's, and you could see the dust all the way to East Texas. |

A few years ago, during a spell of real bad temper, a Nor'Wester blew down a fair lump of Pine forest, about50 miles North of here, and that stirred the locals. During the season, which is just starting, barn roofs are just another hazard to beaware of while driving. Naturally, firemen hate these breezes, because if a fire gets away with the air behind it, life gets tedious darn quick! |

I was married and had my three sons, living in Paris, Texas when the last really bad one happened. We actually had dust settle on the car from the storm in the Panhandle. |

Of course they all wait for it, because it generally brings in 3-4 months of dry warm weather.Gardeners, firemen,& those who are nervous, share your lack of enthusiasm Jerry. But what will be, will be, and the wind only effects Canterbury, because of the topograghy of the South Island of NZ |
