How many people think that $30 is enough money to watch 1-4 kids for a whole day?? From 7-12 hours per day??

I don't have to post my feelings on here, babe. You and Katie both know I feel she is being cheated for all she does all day long with those kids.

I think thats waaaay to little money!!!

I was a mom of 4 little ones.... all day long...and it is friggin hard work to take care of kids all day!

Then when they are not yours and you have the added responsibility of making sure someone elses kids are safe and fed

$30.00 does not even begin to cover it!!!!

It's not enough, that is a long shift. I pay $25 for a 5 hour shift for 3 kids, and that is dirt cheap. Most sitters make min- !$10 bux an hour and that's under the table

OMG, is that how much they pay now? I use to get $20 for 4 hours back in the 80's...wow I am telling my age!!!
I think they are taking advantage of the babysitter!!! I would not allow my child to babysit for that kind of money, you have to many people counting on you and not enough pay!!!! NO WAY!!!!

I have to say I am not sure. I guess it depends on a lot of factors. When I was 16 I use to watch 5 kids and I got 5 dollars an hour. But I did not have to clean house either.

After I was married I was watching children in my home and the most I ever got was 18 dollars a day for one child. Another family paid me 150 a week for watching 3 kids. Again, I did not have to clean someone elses home.

Today my best friend pays $150 a week to her sitter to watch her baby. Again, no house cleaning and it is for 6 hours a day.

Now to add to the mix in this area local house cleaning business get about $20 an hour per person sent to the home to clean. So if you have a large home, 3 people cleaning $60 an hour, 2-3 hours= $180 a week. Of that 20 bucks, each cleaner only got 6 an hour. I am guessing that your young lady is not doing a total house clean every day. So she will have to adjust a fair price.

Each area is different in base pay for sitters and house cleaners. If your young person is feeling used she has 2 choices. Tell the women she works for that she feels that any added chores will not be added untill she is properly compensated. A valuable life lesson for a young person to learn to stand up for herself. Or your young person could go and try and find another job. Minimum wage, taxes taken out and less hours in this economy. I am gussing here, but I take it that the sitter is getting paid under the table? Makes a big difference.

Harsh I know, but it is the way things like this go. Sorry.
I am of the mind set, any job is better than no job.

WOW here daycare cost $7.00 a day and the government pays the rest which is $21.00 day, which totals up to $29.00 which includes a hot lunch meal and a snack for up to 10 hours of service per day?? WOW

well here min wage is like $7.25 minus taxes so if we pay our sitters 8-10 an hour under the table they make more than we do, going to work is all in vein. I have a major problem finding a sitter at all that I can even afford. I can not afford to work barely, If you want to be on the sliding scale --first you have to have a 40 hr work week/which many places dont offer anymore, otherwise you have to pay full price, which you cant afford either. Funny how life works. OUCH!
