But try to remember that the United States is a very large country. England is smaller than many of our states and we have 50 of them. You can prolly find a town called Derby in 101 places! Don't know much about u to give u travel tips, but since 9-11 access to the Whitehouse for tours is very limited. Though touring Washingtom DC is well worth it! If you go to Virginia area also go to Williamsburg, a restored Colonial Village. Be sure to go to Virgina Beach for fun in the sun - tons of parties and cute ladies! Also in that area be sure to go to The Smokey Mountain national park region in the Appalachin Mountains - nothing else like it!! You can hike The Appalachin Trail some and also go to the Cherokee Reservation. In this region, also, back out on the coast there are barrier reef islands off the carolinas -beautiful. Most is protected park/reserve are. Wild Horses still roam some parts. Delighted that u r interested in the east ! Most people always want to know about California Oh, and keep in mind, It would take several weeks and lots of money to get from the DC area to the American West |

A tour through all the states would be pretty great, but very expensive, better get yourself working soon. Fifty quid a week?! sod that. I need more than that a day to survive.

OP, come to Arizona sometime and see the Grand Canyon (one of the Wonders of the World). Just wait till the cool season to make the trip. The rest of the year is too bloody hot.

New England. It's like being back in England, except 100 years behind England.
Ok, just kidding. It's nothing like England, although there are towns named as Cornwall, Kent, Milford and York. "new" York. |

Derby, Vermont was in turn named after Derby, Connecticut when parts of the founding family moved. Derbyshire, England provided the name for the Connecticut town. An authority on English place-names says Derby originally meant "homestead frequented by wild animals." |

As others have mentioned, the United States is very large. I would highly suggest doing some research about major cities such as New York, Chicago, Atlanta, Miami, New Orleans, San Francisco, etc...
There is even great diversity within the states and between the states. If you can save up the money and are willing to do the grand tourist thing, then you can hit the major cities within a couple weeks. But, if you really want to get to know all of the US, plan on taking several trips ... such as one to each state... and get off the beaten path and really explore. I just read your profile.... since you are a student, if you get a chance to study aboard in the US, take it! |
