A man may fall many times but he isn't a failure until he begins to blame someone else.

I wonder, when we are up against a challenge or disappointment in our lives if we are able to use it to further ourselves, or let it take us out?

A couple of times.
In 2004, an associate/friend and I was provided the opportunity to run a federal election campaign in our district for The Green Party.
With little experience, no expectation to win and no money, we assembled a diverse energetic team and along the way, I learned so much about myself and found the experience personally rewarding. We both moved on to other things a few months after the election but the same group we assembled is still going strong.

I have been "tapped" several times but I would like to think that my finest hour will come 2 minutes before I die. As long as there is breath in the body there is still room for hope that I can and will do better.

I'm no longer in politics but I do a lot of community volunteering and the rewards that come with engaging with the community are extremely fulfilling. I have no family and I'm relatively healthy so I have a lot of time and energy to spare.
I count myself very fortunate and lucky to give what I can. But I do have the time which not everyone can afford.

Who knows? How do you know that it was your "finest hour"? How can you ever really be sure that something even better is not waiting just around the corner??? All I know is that I sincerely hope I never recognize mine when it comes...because if you do recognize that this is "as good as it's gonna get" then where is the incentive to continue past that point?

I was just thinking before reading this of some absolutely awesome opportunities I've had. Especially in the entertainment industry where I have worked for years. Produced some of the best gigs ever. That whole era of my life is now behind me, just a year ago finished.

But also being able to go to college while being a single parent and graduating summa cum laude. I mean hey now, that's not chopped liver material. LOL

I don't want to think, like you say .. well, been there, done that. And nothing ahead.

Can't lose sight of the shore .. there's more, there's more Should be incentive to keep outdoing YOURSELF!!!
