NAACP Cites Tea Party Blog Post as Further Proof of Racism

(July 16) -- The war of words between the NAACP and members of the tea party movement is not dying down.

After the venerable civil rights organization passed a formal resolution "to condemn extremist elements within the tea party, calling on tea party leaders to repudiate those in their ranks who use racist language in their signs and speeches," a spokesman for the anti-taxation grass-roots group fired off a retaliatory, mocking blog post.

Conservative radio host Mark Williams, a frequent spokesman for the Tea Party Express, posted a satirical letter from NAACP President Benjamin Jealous to President Abraham Lincoln that began:

Dear Mr. Lincoln,

We [National Association for the Advancement of] Colored People have taken a vote and decided that we don't cotton to the whole emancipation thing. Freedom means having to work for real, think for ourselves, and take consequences along with the rewards. That is just far too much to as for us [National Association for the Advancement of] Colored People and we demand that it stop!

The letter continued:

Perhaps the most racist point of all in the tea parties is their demand that government "stop raising our taxes." That is outrageous! How will we Colored People ever get a wide screen TV in every room if non-coloreds get to keep what they earn? Totally racist! The tea party expects coloreds to be productive members of society?

Mr. Lincoln, you were the greatest racist ever. We had a great gig. Three squares, room and board, all our decisions made by the massa in the house. Please repeal the 13th and 14th Amendments and let us get back to where we belong.


On CNN, a spokesman for the NAACP called the letter "a feeble attempt as satire and parody," and "offensive." Shortly thereafter, however, Mr. Williams removed the letter from his site. In the comment section of his blog, Williams apologized for the decision to use the term "massa":

To those offended by those errors in judgement [sic] I apologize.

But Williams continued to hold his ground over much of the post's content, as in the following reply to one commenter perplexed at the racial overtones of Mr. Williams' letter:

Real simple. ... the NAACP does not speak for anyone outside of its narrow little group of backward looking people. In their world view they still cannot sit at a lunch counter or the front of the bus.

I dont quite get the comparison,,one is about preserving a SPECIFIC culture while the other is about fighting for Equal rights amongst ALL the cultures

At least the KKK comes right out and says what they're about. The NAACP, la raza, lulac, maldef, and naleo all hide behind these BS mission statements. Even the new black panty waste party tries to hide behind lies, but king moron or whatever his name is is far too stupid to know what discretion is little lone use it so the founder has to go on national TV and say he doesn't know why he said those things yet he never condemns them.

when did the NAACP give, help or donate to anyone that wasn't black? it says all races, but i don't ever remember them doing anything for anyone but black people.

NAACP was founded by, has members who are, and employs white people as well. None of this is true of KKK. NAACP posted bail for freedom fighters of all races during the sixties. NAACP continues to champion the cause for AFFIRMATIVE ACTION ,which helps white women as well as AFrican Americans and others. NAACP isnt about preserving a culture, it is about tackling inequality. It is the response to all those who complain about 'special' treatment. It was formed because the interests of the minority were not represented elsewhere and it needs to remain to ensure we dont return to those times.

Affirmative action is discriminatory horse **** and this will be on Arizona's ballot this year or next year to see if the people want is or not in regards to state hiring. I for one am absolutely against it because I've seen first hand what it does. It rewards people with no real motivation by giving positions of power so the business can fill a quota.

you saw the paper that said the decision was affirmative action based or are you ASSUMING what you saw was AFfirmativ action?,,,Quotas are not a regular part of Affirmative Action, quotas are mandated by a judge,,,but thats a different story,,

How can Affirmative action be so discriminatory,, where are the numbers and facts to back up that claim? unemployment numbers have been and still are consistently HIGHER than any other amongst minorities, Upwards of 95 percent of all upper management jobs are white males......where is this evidence that Affirmative Action discriminates,,,? against whom?

This happened at Target while I worked there. Affirmative action is DISCRIMINATION. Its discriminatory against whitey and the naacp is ok with this, in fact that fully endorse it. The woman (black) was late often and not well liked because she was lazy (liked to stand around and talk while others worked) and she was given a promotion and put in charge of the womens clothing department. I don't have to see a piece of paper to see a discriminatory law in play. And quotas are set by companies so they get bigger tax breaks for hiring and promoting minorities, not judges.

wrong,, you do need to see the paper to make the CLAIM that affirmative action caused the decision. And quotas are illegal, so if you can ever PROVE a company has set them,, take it to court. People confuse GOALS with quotas. A goal requirs a 'good faith effort',, quotas are illegal.

I suggest people READ about these things instead of just reacting emotionally and impulsively to the propoganda they have heard. I have seriously responded to these NAACP and AA Myths til I am blue in the face and there would be no need if people would actually just RESEARCH the truth instead of repeating the assumptions.

Off topic but until "whitey" stops discriminating against all non whites and gays there will be a need for affirmative action.

It's also quite the little eye-opener that you only assign this aspect of personality to ONE race - THAT's a RACIST comment in and of itself. Dismissed ...

i'm not for the kkk, but they said what they are about to help the whites... no bs involved there... i don't know if your right about what you just said, but i will check into it. as far as employing white people, it's a law, they have to. but i seriously doubt the NAACP would help white people unless they had to by law.

I appreciate your willingness to at least research a bit further. You will find NAACP has championed many causes which affected white(mostly impoverished whites) and black folks alike.
