Bleh.
Instead of worrying about everyone else, how about worrying about yourself...? If civilization (which you're a part of) is so bad how are you gonna improve it, and if you can't why even bother??? |

Well I guess I have to add the fact..that my up bringing was probably different than many others. Especially town-folks are a lot different than me.
For example - At age 9, I used to disappear for the whole day, almost every day, especially summer time, out of school. I would get up in the morning and start walking. I walked 10-20 miles away in the middle of nowhere..literally. Not in this country. I didn't even come home to eat. I drank from the rivers and I ate wild fruits and I also figured out about some roots that look like carrots and eatable. Usually I couldn't wait for the winter to end, and the first sign of the Spring I was out. Later when I got older (14-15yrs old) I was gone fishing for days. I took some food with me for the first day, but then I was depending on the catch. I cleaned the fish, and then I grilled them and that's what I ate. There were times I was gone for 5 days. I had a tent I made myself and that's it. I took a bath in the river and also drank from it too. Sometimes I would refuse to leave if I didn't catch enough fish so I could take a bunch home with me. Sometimes I came home with enough fish for 3 restaurants, all cleaned, gutted and wrapped up so they would not go bad or I kept them alive until I left home. Hmmm..now as i think back..even though i didn't have a car, neither was I in any relationship and I couldn't care less about women..those were just great times... |

Bleh. Instead of worrying about everyone else, how about worrying about yourself...? If civilization (which you're a part of) is so bad how are you gonna improve it, and if you can't why even bother??? LOL! Does this thread looks like I'm worrying about everyone else? This whole topic is exactly the opposite. And me to improve the civilization? There is absolutely nothing I can do. Not in this era, not even you. You could even try to fly into an IRS building with your personal plane and nothing would change. |

Atlantis, I think you mean you are tired of commercialism and the society we live in today. I don't think you would like living in an uncivilized society. Unless you mean uninhabited, which could be nice. For a while. Sometimes you have to stop, take a few steps back and analyze what you are doing. What exactly are you working toward, what is your goal? If your goal is happines, what makes you happy? Big house and 2 cars and the Sunday golf? Sure having a relationship is nice, but that's not everything. That's a part of it, not a life goal. There must be more you supposed to be going for. I don't want to live my life away, being worried how much things are gonna cost and when I'm gonna loose my job and join the soup line and live in a tent under the bridge. I'm sick of that..and since it doesn't seem to change, I don't see the end of the tunnel at all. So if the society won't change and neither what's going on..then I have to choose to be passive and just leave it. And no, it's not like I would go to a 3rd world country and try to get a job there so I could make 1 dollar a day. That's just jumping boats really. I was talking about "away from everything". Away from all the things that makes a place called a town and having a job etc.. If you aren't able to find meaning in what you do, I don't think moving away from civilization will help. You have to do the hard work of finding meaning in life for yourself. I was fortunate to find my purpose at a young age. |

Just remember, whereever you go, there you are. Seriously.
Compltete understand yet it sounds like meditating, even walking meditation might be a better ticket for your escape. It's much more soothing and helps in this insane world to realize the purpose which in turn helps you cope, relax and even be at peace. That is what you're actually seeking, yes? |

To tell you the truth I'm tired of the so called civilized world. Various classes and buying crap that supposed to enhance my life somehow. I know, most people couldn't do it, but there is more out there than mobile phones and TV shows and democrats vs. republicans. 9pm in the evening only matters if you gotta get up for work at 6 in the morning, otherwise it's meaningless if you are not paying any bills and just get up when the Sun comes up to the sky. I'm sorta tired of civilization lately. Internet, cars and mobile phones didn't really make me any happier so far. The only thing I would take with me are guns and ammo for hunting, some clothes, petrol lamp and a good knife and I would be all set. I don't even want to know what time it is. For me, it would be just enough of info whether its the night or day and for that, I just have to look up the sky. I think my plan C - if I ever get to that point - means, that I won't have to worry about what the IRS does or who the hell is the persident currently or how much the price of the gasoline is right now. Just let me find myself a place away from all this stuff, have some wildlife to hunt for food, a little land to grow carrots and lettuce and I'm all set. Everyone else just go do whatever you do and like to do and just forget about what I do with my life or if I exist or not. Take me with you, but only if we plant corn and potatoes, too! |

I could definitely do it!
My dream is to buy a small patch of land in the middle of nowhere, completely secluded from the harsh world, with nobody around for miles and miles and miles. And miles. If I leave the woods once or twice a year to get basic supplies and visit "the real world", I'll be a happy camper. (Excuse the pun. ) Cooking just caught fish on a hot rock thrown in the fire...drinking fresh, clean mountain water...real peace and quiet with nothing but the sounds of nature... Sounds heavenly! Of course, Vermont winters are harsh so I'll have to have at least a shack of some kind. And I'll probably bring a truckload of basic supplies in just because I'd starve if I had to actually shoot something myself. I'm an animal lover...I'd be fine if someone else killed our dinner, but I can't do the deed. And I'll have a battery operated radio...so I can listen to music, and the Sox games. Someday... |
