Topic: Can Anyone Help ? | |
---|---|
My computer seems not to recognise my sound card ( Creative Sound
Blaster)people can hear me when I call their computer or Skype them but I cannot hear them. I have downloaded drivers form Acer's ftp, I have also ran a disk check because I kept getting messages that some of my programmes are corrupted, so then I flashed the Bios, reformatted, re-installed windows..........all to no avail, here is the message I get when I try to install SoundBlaster " Set up could not detect any Sound Blaster Audio card on your system. Please ensure that your Sound Blaster hardware is properly installed before running this set up programme" any ideas ? Thanks in advance for any help. |

You don't happen to know the model to the sound card, do you? I can
check to see what's up with it.... If you want. |

There are several Creative Sound Blaster Sound Cards. I would love to

BonnyMiss,
Nothing you have on your computer will run on Linux, unless you use some sort of emulator. Windows XP SP2 is a great OS, unless you just want a change, I wouldn't. |

BonnyMiss, you flashed your bios?? Last time I tried to do that, I
failed - I couldn't find what I needed, whether it was the right bios image or some flashing software which would work for my older machine. For anyone reading this thread that is having serious problems with their soundcard, you can buy a tiny usb sound device for under $20 (ebay) which makes a great work-around. >> Nothing you have on your computer will run on Linux, unless you use some sort of emulator. I think what Spider is saying here is that, most likely, much of your -current software- will not run natively on Linux. Of course, if you happened to already be using Firefox, Open Office, and Java-based programs (Limewire) - then fresh downloads of all of -those- programs WILL run just the same under Linux. Plus, as spider noted, since you have a windows partition already, if you have a fast machine its possible you would be able to run a full windows session in virtual machine and run -all- of your windows-based software. If you want to give a Linux distribution a spin, you can download and burn (or buy on the cheap) a Linux live CD, which will allow you to test drive it without changing your current system at all (unless you tell it to). In any case, I would certainly -keep- your XP partition. |

To all the lovely peeps who came to my aid................
A BIG THANK YOU Finally got my puter sorted and my Soundblaster woiks !!! I ran a disk check, which managed to clear some of the fluff, also ran my "Crap Cleaner "...............that took some of the residue of some of the registry values left behind from uninstalled programmes, I then set to work with Uniblue and it repaired some of the registry entries. Now to de-frag Hurrah !!
