Oh Christians love to claim they were persecuted. But the end reslut of Christianity was in the hand of the Romans I.E. THE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH. They couldn't beat them down, so they smothered them and took their religion and twisted it to their own advantage. The real Christians did not worship Jesus as a God, or as the son of God. Those Christians were all slaughtered. The remaining Christians all fell in line with the Roman's remake of their savior as a God in the flesh and joined the ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH. Today the Pope still claims to be the number one religious leader of the entire world and there are priests and high ranking catholic clergy working in every country of the world. I believe most of them are just spies. "Those Christians were all slaughtered." How is that NOT persecusion??? To me that post seems contradictory. Claim??? There is historical proof of the persecution of the Cristians till the 4th century and pagans after that. I do not deny the atrocities humankind has to to one another, why do you when obviously, by your own words, you know different? You wrote the words, do they mean something else? Pagans claimed to be tolerant of other religions, but religions that were not "respectful" of paganism were banned. Judaeism was tolerated because of an earlier treaty with an emperor. So what? Well, that leaves Rome with a primarily pagan religion, one which would "absorb" other peoples beliefs as long as it didn't contradict their own. The Jews at that time were still under treaty but nonetheless expelled from the city(ies). So we end up with a majority of converted Christians that were either pagan or Jewish originaly. So they're persecuted for over 300 years. What do you think happens when a Christian becomes emperor? He does the same to the pagans... All of this was done, not because of religious beliefs, but because of political reasons. So how do I see history then? Pagans persecuting Christians, then Christians(pagans perhaps?) persecuting pagans. But, I make the distinction that neither religion has persecuted anyone. It's the men who did the persecuting that are to blame, not the religion. Should every American be held responsible for the actions of our president or military? You are right, its not the religion that does the persecuting, its people. The group of Christians who that were slaughtered were the ones who disagreed with the Roman Catholic Catholic Church that Jesus was the son of God or a God himself. Today, a person who claims to be a Christian but says that Jesus is not the son of God would still be "persecuted" or not accepted by the average Christian faith because the whole story about God sending his son to die for their sins would be a moot point. I think people are basically ignorant for putting so much importance on what kind of personal belief someone has about God that they would persecute, fight and die for the idea. How about lets just all be friends. Screw religion. |

This isn't a meaningful analogy. Let the Bible be the "President". After all, it's supposed to be the "Word of God" and God is the acting "president" of the religion. Then simply ask the questions, "Does God command people to murder heathens in the Bible?" The answer is clear. Not only does God command it, but he even goes out of his way on occassion to tell them to murder the Wives, Childern and even the entire villages that the heathen's came from. So it is the GOD, in this religion who is GIVING these people the OK to murder "heathens". In other words, it IS the religion! It's not an abuse of the religion. It's precisely what the scriptures actually say! And even the New Testament can't be used to deny this, because even the New Testament claims that Jesus himself said that he did not come to change the laws, not one jot nor one tittle. So it doesn't require and "abuse" at all, for anyone to legitimately demand that all of the laws of the Old Testament are still valid. So it IS the religion that is responsible for this. Pretending otherwise is foolish. You'd have to really ignore what the scriptures actually say to pretend that the God of this religion doesn't direct people to murder heathens. And quote often even mass-murder them including their women and children. It IS the religoin. There's no two ways about it. Modern day Christians are just trying to deny that their God ever did this, but it's STILL in the book! |

How about lets just all be friends. Screw religion. Too bad you weren't the Queen back in those days, you could have saved the world a lot of pain. You make a good point. But its people who obey(ed)God and killed the heathens who are the problem. I think there was a sect of Catholic deacons and priests whose particular job it was to kill non-believing heretics. It was in the Jesuit order. I think they probably secretly still operate behind the scenes. |

I met an Ex-Jesuit Priest on a cruise in 2001 when my X-husband invited me to go on this cruise with him. He (the priest) was just discovering the world and having fun for the first time in his life. He was discovering that there were a lot of nice people in the world who weren't Catholic. We danced and partied all night. |

I find what you say very interesting. I have my doubts about jesus and the early church. I just wondered where you get your info from? It is not that I reject it, but I am curious. I see no reason to continue being a christian if it is based on pliny the younger, or Piso (or whatever his name is), etc. If what you say has credence in history, then I need to rethink all I have read and believed.

Nietzsche wrote, "The irrationality of a thing is not an argument against its existence, rather a condition of it."
what a child understands is very different than what their parents understand I am a spiritual child, I know I wont know or understand all that God does and says,,but my faith in his love makes me confident that with experience and Gods grace,, I will come to understand it all |

Thomas: have you read "The Conspiracy Of Zion"? The evidence in that book seems to contradict what you are saying, and it may be of interest to you. the conspiracy of zion is a rehash of the the notorious anti-semitic propaganda "Protocols of the Elders of Zion" it is hate-speech hogwash http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Protocols_of_the_Elders_of_Zion no one in their right mind would advocate a worldwide jewish conspiracy except the most ardent bigots read about it in the wiki this stuff should have gone out with the Nazis "Richard Thurlow noted that Reed was one of the first antisemitic writers to deny Hitler's extermination of the Jews. In a review of Reed's Lest We Regret written in 1943, George Orwell compared Reed's outlook to that of the anti-Hitlerian Nazi dissident Otto Strasser and the British fascist leader Oswald Mosley, stressing Reed's continuing denial of Nazi extermination (as opposed to mere persecution) of the Jews."
