Topic: Study: Iraq Second Most Unstable Country | |
---|---|
WASHINGTON (AP) - Iraq is now the second most unstable country in the
world, a private survey finds, its standing deteriorating from last year's fourth place on a list of the 10 nations most vulnerable to violent internal conflict and worsening conditions. In the third annual ``failed state'' index, analysts for Foreign Policy magazine and the not-for-profit Fund for Peace said that Iraq and Afghanistan, which ranked eighth, show that billions of dollars in development and security aid may be futile without a functioning government, trustworthy leaders and realistic plans to keep the peace and develop the economy. Preventing Iraq from becoming a failed state is a key part of the Bush administration's argument for keeping U.S. troops in the country. The administration says the troops are needed to keep Iraq from becoming a breeding ground for international terrorists. The ratings are based on 12 social, economic, political and military indicators. Sudan, which topped the list, and seven other sub-Saharan African countries are among the top 10. Violence in the Darfur region was the main contributing cause to Sudan's top position. A lot of good we are doing, Aye!!!! Oh ok. Thanks, Fanta.

More than 150 wars have been fought since the end of the war to end all
wars. Food for thought. |

I just lost my appetite!

I find it interesting that top 10 most unstable countries in the world
are those where Islam, the religion of peace is the predominant religion, makes you wonder don't it. |
|
|
|
The US that has destabilized two of them, formally, and we are seeking
to destabilize two others, formally. There are many Muslim countries that are stable, and, in case it matters, have greater social cohesion than the US. Makes one wonder, doesn't it? Oceans |

Good point forge!
Didnt think of it that way. I was looking more at how things were going down hill in Iraq! In one year they went from 4th to 2nd!! |

A study done by two liberal, anti-war groups finds that Iraq is
unstable? <sarcasm>This is front page news! Pardon me, I'm going to run down the street naked screaming "Iraq is unstable" to draw attention to this important topic.</sarcasm> |

You posted while I was typing Oceans, I agree there are some very stable
muslim countries and to group them all as unstable would be wrong! I was mostly looking at how things in Iraq continue to regress while we are told that they are getting better. It does make you wonder. How are you tonight? |

Hey Fanta!
All well here -- got a lot dne. I've been preparing abriefing on Iraq for the last couple of weeks and it is shaping up nicely -- the briefing, not Iraq. I may post some of the findings here. There will I think be some big things happening in the next few months. Oceans |

I will be watching your posts. Of course you know many on here will
believe you to be biased! LMAO!!! You have so much invested in the economy there!!! You must be a democrat to not believe in what Bush says! Did I ever tell you I voted for him the first time? |
|
|
|
Ahhhhh, Fanta. True confessions, eh?
I didn't vote for Bush, but I did think when he first ran that he had the potential for being an adequate president. He still has 581 days in office, but I think there is near-zero chance that he will recover. Instead, his waning days will become worse and worse as those who have used him to date make their last demands on him. Oceans |

LOL, I was going to ask that you not make fun of me!!
You didnt, that is good, and I am often tempted to hide that fact, but I am partially responsible for the idiot being in office and must admit my guilt publicly or suffer alone and in silence.. That could be devastating to a person, and cause life long lasting effects on the physic!! Ive seen it before where people walk around blind, all the time. I have chosen the lesser evil instead, to slap myself in the forehead repeatedly while saying dumbass, dumbass over in over when I am alone and no one is watching! |

Glen, you should run. I'll back you. Oceans could be your VP. Cool eh?

Would you worship me with blind devotion?
You wouldnt like what I would do about Iraq Zap!!! |
