Topic: SpiderCMB's thoughts for Father's Day | |
---|---|
Exodus 20:12 tells us "Honor your father and your mother, that your days
may be prolonged in the land which the LORD your God gives you." This scripture establishes the relationship that God desires children to have with their parents, which is patterned on the relationship God wants us to have with Him. This relationship doesn't change based on how your father treats you, you are bound by God's law to honor your father regardless of his behavior. Just like your eathly father is bound by God's law to repect you and treat you with love. I noticed something today while picking up some things at the Phramacy down the street. Almost everyone walking out was carrying a father's day card...for many of the people, that was their only purchase. This made me think, many of us Americans honor our earthly fathers the same way we honor God. But that isn't a good thing, because we honor both our earthly and heavenly fathers as an afterthought only. |

Spider, your interpretation may well be the correct one on this.
Unfortunately, I cannot in all honesty accomplish this. I can, however, honor God/Universe as father/mother. I may be committing myself to eternal damnation in the eyes of some; however, I am not lying to myself. |

No Spider, I'm not mocking anything. Any part of your post I removed
from the part I copied was done intentionally. I refuse to believe God is anything like my father. |

Differentkindofwench,
I didn't think you were mocking, I was just asking a question. I didn't say that God was anything like your father, God is incomparible. I was simply pointing out that God wants us to pattern our relationship with our parents after the relationship we should have with Him. I take it that you didn't have a good father. That's a pity, I'm sorry to hear that. I consider myself lucky to have had my parents, so I have never been placed into that position. God bless. |
